I loved that guy, like a continuation model of Mark Donohue.

I followed Al closely during his career, mostly at Daytona & Sebring but also up at Lime Rock. Only time I witnessed something close to Penske perfection in detail. After his accident the team brought the Lowenbrau 962 to Daytona along with his entire family & close friends. After one demonstration lap, the car, driven by Derek Bell was pushed into the grass in the middle of the tri-oval. Everyone in attendance just milled around in silence. I have photos I took that day but don’t look at them often because it’s just depressing to view them. His son was exspecialy distraught and emotionless. Al was a Christian, and I believe that gave all the energy to move forward from such a loss. If anyone is interested I will post a few photos from that sad day.

This was confirmed at the SunBank 24 Hours of Daytona on February 3, 1985. At the end of the race, Porsche 962s held the four top positions. The Löwenbräu Special finished 2nd overall, behind 962-104 and ahead of 962-106 and 962-102.
After Daytona, 962-103 next appeared at the 12 Hours of Sebring, where it was driven to another 2nd place finish. From there, the Löwenbräu Special went on a tear. In May, Holbert drove the 962 to victory at the Laguna Seca 300 Kilometers. Two weeks later, Bell returned for the Charlotte 500 Kilometers and Holbert Racing won its second race of the season. After a 4th place finish at Lime Rock, 962-103 went on to capture two more wins: the first at the Mid-Ohio 500 Kilometers and the second at the 3 Hours of Watkins Glen.”

(Other image hosting sites are available, but I’m not as familiar with them.)

Tim I use a iPad ! Explain why you can’t just upload a photo directly to the site like most forum's

If they aren’t ridiculous why are all the photos from past threads missing ? The older posts are worthless without the photos.

I don't like it, either, partly as I'm a photographer and spent some serious time uploading, so had to choose between that and supporting a company that took advantage of users who built them -- and chose not to.
Please don't pressure or hammer on Tim, he's about the nicest and most-knowledgeable guy here and we value him.

I’ve modified my post above to include iPads.Tim I use a iPad ! Explain why you can’t just upload a photo directly to the site like most forum's
Tampaguy, I apologise for the rather curt tone of that post, but at the time I did feel your ‘ridiculous rules’ comment was a trifle unfair. Here are the reasons why you can’t post photos direct, as set out by my colleague Vitesse2 in an earlier thread:
Although it is indeed easier to post photos directly onto social media sites such as Facebook, remember that, for Facebook anyway, you surrender to them part of the rights to your photo when you post it there. This may not worry some people, but I don’t think professional photographers such as E1pix would ever risk posting their photos there. As has been explained on several occasions, the primary reasons that Autosport doesn't offer photo hosting are:
1 The cost of doing it. This has been the case since the earliest days of Atlas, when storage and bandwidth cost serious money. As of a few minutes ago the board had just under 8.4 million posts - if even 5% of those included hosted images we would need MUCH bigger servers to cope. And I would remind you that access to the board is free, gratis, for nothing.
2 Copyright. Autosport's owners - Haymarket and now Motorsport.com - are both big fish and would not wish to get involved in being sued for hosting images which might infringe somebody's copyright.
Uploading pictures from remote sites is NOT difficult. Problems only really occur when - as has happened several times - previously free to use hosting sites have changed their rules.

If you’re still having problems, I’d be happy to post your photos for you - if interested let me know and I’ll PM you an email address.
