In the absence of The Big Wheel and The Crowd Roars, went for Grand Prix.

Le Mans is beautiful and evocative but no plot at all.

I struggle to like Racing Movies, perhaps because you are aware how much different it is to the reality, but I clearly enjoyed Grand Prix the most.

To be fair though, Driven (2001) isn't a racing movie either, it's a satirical comedy.

Not a big fan of racing movies to be honest, but I‘m dropping the hammer and voting for Days of Thunder.

I didn't think Grand Prix was a great movie per se, but man... the footage of those cars going around the old Monza on the banking was absolutely enthralling 👍

It's been many years since I watched it but tbh 'Heart Like a Wheel' was probably the racing movie I enjoyed most.

Driven. The talent of that cast. The realistic CGI. The epic story. It is the perfect movie.

Viva Las Vegas??

Seriously, I think my vote goes to Le Mans. But i'm not objective: Le Mans '70 is one of the first ever races I saw TV coverage of. Fell instantly in love with 917s and 512s.

Probably enough said.....

Well if you are putting conditions on what you believe constitutes a 'racing' movie, you really should list them at the start then - I don't know about others, but I cannot read people's minds. Just ask my wife...

Defintely Grand Prix (1966) for me, speaking from the perspective of a hardened racing fan. I think it's an incredible achievemnt of filming and the plot is both interesting and mostly beleivable.

If I were to reccomend one to a friend who wasn't that into racing I'd probably point them in the way of Rush though.

And in the beginning there was motor racing, which made a good story without any fiction, and Hollywood which told many stories without racing, and the multitude rejoiced at them both.

But then the arch-priests of Hollywood mixed stories and racing, and the stories were as the droppings of a bull, and the false racing caused the faithful to gnash their teeth and rend their garments, and a great wailing was amongst the multitude.

Can't believe Rush is getting more votes than Le Mans.

Hmm. I think Rush maybe appeals more broadly on the merits of the human story. Le Mans is lots of amazing shots of 70s racing at Le Mans but gives you very little reason to car about the characters or for that matter telling you what is actually happening, so for me is more of a niche thing.

I put my vote in for Grand Prix though. It's got the best of everything in it imo.
