They just bump-started McLaughlin's car.  I remember doing that to a Mini Metro about 25 years ago.  That car, in the 1990s mind you, had a choke!

I had to work, but my wife and son went to practice.

My son just got the experience of a lifetime!  He is a big Simon Pagenaud fan.  He went to his first race last year on his 2nd birthday and picked Simon's car as his favorite.  He always says "Where's Pagenaud" when we are watching.

I'm delighted for you and your family. Can only imagine how magical it is for you to see those pictures.

You better give your Son a proper chance in his racing career

I will say that those liveries that incorporate their color scheme at the top of the Aeroscreen look a lot better than the ones that aren't painting the tops of their Aeroscreen.  Those cars look like the Popemobile from certain angels, especially from the front.

Indy car on my TV again...happy days

I'm not keen on the aero screen and I'd much prefer it not to be there, but I dont think they had much choice really. I dont find it as visually offensive as the halo..I guess because the car looks nicer than any current F1 car

I might have a different view when I see it in the flesh in a few weeks time

Aeroscreen looks much better than it did in a few pictures. Needs to be a little lower, and definitely should taper down at the back rather than connecting to the roll hoop, two things which will hopefully be addressed with the new chassis.

These cars still look damn good though. Not as good as they did, but they still look awesome. The rear wing being low does a lot for them.

That orange on the top of the screen on Dixon's car is a freakin' eyesore, though.

The retro, "Copenhagen-sponsored years" look of the #14 is very attractive.  And Bourdais has set quite a marker for Kellett.

This is true. Any anyway, I'm all about Spanish drivers now...

Palou looks really good.  Askew does too.   There are going to be some strong new drivers.

Nasr is also really talented.  I hope he gets a chance to race.

Askew is Pruett's early pick for ROY, based in part on innate talent, and in part on the suspicion that AMSP has more resources to help him out, including in the all important category of finishing consistently, than the other teams do with their rookies.

I actually really like the aeroscreen from most angles. Certainly side on and front on from above.

It's only front on from ground level-ish that it looks awkward.

I just wasted 30 minutes trying to open the unlisted Google Youtube video in the Google Youtube app on Google Android and not in the Google Chrome browser where it wouldn't Google Cast to my Google TV.

After another 10 minutes I found a workaround. Note to self:

This whole "unlisted" youtube stream is so silly.  I can only guess that NTT wants people to stream using their Indycar app and I'm like... I ain't literally watching marching ants on my phone! My phone screen is about the size of a Tamagotchi.

But, seriously, what kind of surname Kanaan is?

It is. He is Brazilian, but his family has Lebanese heritage. Same goes for Felipe Nasr, Brazilian with Syrian heritage

I just read that Scott McLaughlin had the third fastest time in the test today. Sounds impressive?!?

Times representative or not something we should read too much into? (yes I know it's testing but wondering how that performance stacks up against the other drivers/teams I guess...)

The #55 is stunningly beautiful, and Alex Palou will be a force to be reckoned with.  Really good first interview, too - affable chap, enthused to be here!  Totally upstaged Ferrucci, too.

#7 car would be the next best looking one, IMO.  Pato and SQ both looked strong.

DEFLECTOR SHIELD looks just fine when in motion, and pretty damn cool from some angles.  Non-issue.  Rain/spray also seemed to be a non-issue.

RLL didn't seem to get any speed out of the cars, but might be too soon to be worried.

Veekay seemed to constantly wanna try and pass people

Scott McLaughlin - massively impressive performance today, I was shouting when he went P2 for a moment, and P3 is a LEGIT great time.  I really hope he won't have to waste his immense talent in NASCAR some day.  Wouldn't be surprised if he'll be doing the oval test on Friday as Penske's "TBA" and shows up at a few more races (I mean racing!) this season.

Herta's car is probably the ugliest livery out there overall.  But the kid is still quick, off-track excursion notwithstanding.

Nasr and Sette Camara both did quite well.  Nasr's time isn't representative, since he ran in the damp.

Not impressed with ECR's showing in general, but it's just testing, right?

Dalton Kellett looks as out of his league as I thought he would.  Yeah, he ran only 20 laps, but to NOT beat Nasr's wet running time is pretty shabby.  We may have a new DRACONE in the making.

Will Power wasn't in a great mood despite topping the chart.  Maybe he's really feeling the pressure this season, especially with McLaughlin stunning everyone.

Bourdais also ran well in the damp session.  Such a shame that he's only got 4 races (so far).  Hope he'll get more opportunities outside Foyt to run additional races, especially the 500.

"Telecast" was fantastic overall, big kudos to IndyCar and the NBC team for making it happen.  Once they finally really got the cars out there weather permitting, it was super entertaining to watch.  Wish they did this for the Texas Speedway test on Friday, and for that other big Sebring test day that'll have a bunch of teams there before St. Pete.

Tony Kanaan in the booth was lovely, too.  Lots of great insights, and a joy to listen to him.

I like the aeroscreen a lot, but there is also a line cutting through in the middle so not much of a difference to Halo unfortunately.

Pavement can take a while to cure, ten or twelve months and race tracks don’t properly “season” sometimes for a couple of years.  When it’s dry I’d expect some of the oils and components coming up from the pavement to be a bit slippery even with sticky tires.  I’d bet the folks at Firestone have a handle on it and will bring an appropriate tire for the race.

I wonder if the higher CoG and accompanying roll is causing - in effect - 'high sides'? For whatever reason, the fronts are gripping up on opposite lock.

Also responded to this in the COTA thread, so we can pick it up there. Here's a shot of the particular weeping spot that I was referring to there, that we spotted a couple of weeks ago. It's coming from the 'seam' where the 14 month old T10 resurfacing meets the original pavement. But there are others, right in the middle of the original asphalt. Before this latest resurfacing, you could also see weeping from cracks in the middle of the track, on the hill between T1 and T2 and other places, in the original 8+ year old asphalt. There was no camera shot of that area yesterday, so I'm not sure if it's weeping there again yet, but it will. It's a drainage problem & is going to happen wherever there is an opening, & there are already cracks in the new resurfacing going up T1 and at the apex. Guys who have worked there say they had to pump out the french drains daily and that whenever it's wet & that isn't done, this is what happens. There seemed to be perpetual puddles & wet spots yesterday anywhere old pavement met new, and all along the new pavement to a lesser extent. They just never dried up, all day, even hours after the old pavement had completely dried.

Look just above the sign support, on the right. That's not one of the puddles I was referring to. That's a steep slope. It's water coming up from below the track, weeping out between original asphalt & the 14 month old section of asphalt. That section starts just before 10 and ends just below it, right where the weeping starts. You can also see on that section of pavement that they've already had to do grinding on it.

Hadn't noticed this until this test, but you can also see on that section of pavement that they've already had to do grinding on it, probably during the 2019 USGP weekend, when it was less than 1 year old.
