Two e-Prix in three weeks!
What's the sorcery behind this?
Just clever scheduling, for a change!
After an EVENTFUL Mexico City e-Prix, Formula E is back racing in the streets of Marrakesh.
One of its iconic locations, delivering good Formula E races since Season 3.
Last year, it was a GREAT one!
Plenty of action since the beginning of the race. With Jean Eric Vergne outbraking himself into T1 & spinning on Sam Bird's Envision Virgin car.
But the big Drama exploded later in the race, as the two BMW's of Alexander Sims & Antonio Felix Da Costa started battling hard for the lead.
The englishman tried to attack the Portoguese on the oustide. None of them wanted to give up, both locking up & crashing into each other!
---->
Antonio Felix Da Costa was sent into the wall, while Sims lost three place & the lead of the race.
As the chaos unfolded, Jerome D'Ambrosio (Mahindra) jumped at the front of the pack, before the entrance of the Safety Car!
With only one lap of Green Flag racing after the SC, it was all done & dusted, despite a late charge for the lead by Robin Frijns (Virgin)!
D'Ambrosio achieved his first ever Formula E Win (on track!)
Relieve the Classic
Mexico City e-Prix delivered, once again!
Thanks to a renewed track layout, the racing was better than ever on a fast, striking layout including the infamous Peraltada!
The first few laps were among the best Formula E action ever, with Evans & Lotterer going side by side into T1 for the lead of the race.
The German had to lift off, slotting in P4 as multiple battles unfolded around the long, flowing mexican corners.
Major drama on Lap 3, as Nico Muller smashed his Dragon Racing hard into the T1 wall, causing the entrance of the SC!
After the SC, Mitch Evans (Jaguar) just DISAPPEARED into the distance. Amazing pace by the Kiwi, as the battle went on till the chequered flag for P2 onwards.
Drama in the closing stages, as Sam Bird (envision virgin) went straight into the wall while battling for the podium, while Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) smashed his front wing while defending from Alex Sims, the two battling for the Championship Lead.
Alexander Sims was succesful in damage limitation during the Mexico City e-Prix.
His comeback drive from the back of the grid was extraordinary and granted him important points, but Mitch Evans just about got into the Championship Leading Position.
Stoffel Vandoorne could have been near the top, but a costly mistake ruled him out of the Top 3 in the standings.
Will it change in Marrakesh?
Last year, it was a BMW track. With both Sims & Da Costa making the difference.
Also Techeetah's pace was impressive, but hampered by drivers mistakes.
The Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan (also known as Marrakech Street Circuit and Marrakech Racetrack) is a 3 kilometres (1.86 mi) temporary Street Circuit.
It has a capacity of 10,000 spectators and it's a Mix between Traditional Street Circuit & Street Tracks in terms of Layout.
So you'll find medium speed corners, long range corners, but also chicanes & very slow sections.
