OH NO!!  The Corona Virus has the very top drivers and teams scared and thus they require a premium for extra protection and medical crews!!  Will teams pay extra for a top driver and sacrifice their car & engine, sacrifice their drivers for a top car or engine or play around in the tight midfield for everything???

Let the planning and strategery begin!

BOF's Fantasy Formula One 2020 presented by Osiris

Welcome to BOF’s fantasy F1 competition. If you are familiar with the rules from last year’s competition you can skip to the price list and entry form section at the bottom. Everyone else have a read and pick your team!

SETTING UP A TEAM

You have an overall budget of €130m

You must purchase

4 drivers (all from DIFFERENT teams)

1 constructor

1 engine

1 team boss

The constructor, engine and team boss must be from different teams to each other, but can be from the same teams as your drivers.

You will score points for each element of your team based on the tables below. It is not quite as straight forward as most fantasy F1 leagues but in my view this is why it can be more rewarding for those who like to do a bit of homework first (but don't worry, you don't have to do homework if you don’t want to!!).

The most important difference to most fantasy leagues is that your drivers score differently depending on where you place them in your team. This makes tactical placement of those drivers a big part of the game i.e placing Bottas as driver 1 will get you different points than putting him as driver 2.

Also note that strictly speaking you are buying the seat, not the driver. So if you buy Sergio Perez you are actually buying his Racing Point #1 seat. So if, for example, he moves to Ferrari mid-season you will take on his replacement at RPF1 ('Booo' says you). Similarly if you buy an expensive driver who drops down the grid, you will get his replacement at his old team ('Yaaaay' says you).

MID-SEASON TRANSFERS/CHANGES

You don't have to make changes. You can enter the competition and just check the results if you wish. However, you can make FIVE changes to your original team at any point in the season. Up to THREE of these changes can be transfers in/out. The remainder can be made up of swapping the order of the existing drivers within your team (this too can make a big difference).

Each transfer out is at a cost of 10%. Selling a €17m driver will cost €1.7m and will free up the remaining €15.3m to buy another driver (yes the decimal is included).

The cost of the incoming element (be it driver, engine etc..) will be determined by a new price list that will be created once the first FLY AWAY races have been completed.  The new price list will be determined after the Dutch GP race at Zandvoort.

The reason for the new price list is twofold

a. The unknown element of pre-season. I base the prices as accurately as I can, but sometimes you can be caught out badly (remember Brawn?). This way we avoid having identi-kit teams (everyone buying the same element) and it also benefits those who spot the bargains and bring them in at the cheaper original price. Also, if a price does go up, you only get the re-sale value of that element based on what you bought it for.

b. Most fantasy competitions that have transfer markets have some sort of performance-related value fluctuation. This will be ours and it will be a one-off.

If a new team enters F1 at any point in the season they will be added to the price list and can be purchased from that point onwards.

Any changes must be made before first practice of a race weekend. After that, the change becomes active for the following race. Your team must remain legal and within budget at all times (this is regarding drivers all being from different teams and engine/constructor/boss being from different teams).

To make a change, simply private message me via the forum or email me (OsirisF1Fantasy@gmail.com) with the details of the change. I will endeavor to commit the change as soon as possible and notify you of the change. The onus is always on you to ensure your changes are legal. If I am late making a change and it turns out your change was illegal and you have no time to rectify it before the race, that is your own fault.

SCORING SYSTEM

There are 6 possible ways your drivers can score points. But each position (1,2,3,4) only scores from it's own subset of the 6 areas.

The 6 areas are

a  Laps completed (1pt per lap) - going out on lap 41 means you COMPLETED 40 laps. (Only driver #1 scores in this area).

b  Finishing position* (pts detailed in POINTS TABLE below) (Driver #1 & #2 score in this area).

c  Finishing higher than your starting position (9 pts per position) (Driver #2 & #4 score in this area).

d  Achieving a points finish (WDC pts x 2) (Driver #3 & #4 score in this area).

e  Finish higher than team-mate (40pts) (Driver #2 & #3 score in this area).

f  Starting position($) (pts detailed in POINTS TABLE below) (Driver #1, #3 & #4 score in this area).

(* NOTE you do not need to be classified. Once you are not disqualified your finishing position counts even if you go out on lap 1. This goes for all references to 'finishing position' in the competition)

($) This is NOT qualifying position, it is the grid position when gearbox/engine changes & penalties are taken into account (pitlane starts DO NOT affect starting position. The driver keeps the grid position that he would have started from.)

To summarize, your 4 drivers will be scored using the following entries from above

Driver

1 a, b, f

2 b, c, e

3 d, e, f

4 c, d, f

Driver 1 will be scored based on 'a' Laps completed, 'b' finishing position and 'f' his starting position.

Driver 2 will be scored based on 'b' finishing position, 'c' Moving up the grid compared to starting position and 'e' finishing higher than his team-mate and so on and so forth ...

The skill is in picking drivers suited to getting each type of points. As driver 1 scores based on laps completed, starting position and finishing position, you will typically want a very strong and reliable driver in this seat. It is also the seat that brings in the most points. Driver 2 will ideally be someone who tends to climb the grid and beat his team-mate but finish quite high too. Driver 3 should be a good qualifier who beats his team-mate and driver 4 should be someone who predominantly climbs the field through a race (in a way, someone who races better than they qualify).

Your constructor, engine and team boss will score based on a subset of 6 scoring areas

These 6 areas are

g  Laps completed (by BOTH engines, 1pt per lap per car) (Only the engine scores in this category)

h  Finishing position (only the top finisher in the team, points are detailed in POINTS TABLE below) (Constructor & Engine score here)

i  Race win (30pts) (Constructor and team boss score here)

j  Both cars finish (>=90% of race laps completed, 40pts scored) (Engine & team boss score here)

k  Starting position (of both cars, points detailed in POINTS TABLE below) (Only the constructor scores here)
l  Finishing higher than your starting position by the lower qualified driver (11 pts per position) (Only the team boss scores here)

Each element will score from the following

Constructor - h, i, k

Engine - g, h, j

Team boss - i, j, l

If a driver is disqualified from a race he will lose his race points but not his qualification points. If he is disqualified from qualifying and does not participate in the race he will obviously not get any points. All post-race penalties WILL be retrospectively fitted to the scoring. Depending on the scenario, a team's post-race disqualification may or may not result in the individual driver or drivers being disqualified. This depends on whether it is deemed the driver(s) was at fault and not the team. Any injury to a driver resulting in replacement means you take on the replacement driver.

POST RACE

The fantasy results for each race will typically be posted within 24-48 hours of the completion of the race (best endeavors on my part). They will be in the form of an individual race result (including points breakdown for each team), the overall competition table, a form table (score based on previous 3 races) and a medal table (there's a gold, silver & bronze given out for each race).

After each race I will detail the medal winners of that race and the points they got. I will also output a table of each element (where drivers are each detailed in positions 1 to 4, their points will be in the form 1-2-3-4 where 1=the points as driver 1, 2=the points as driver 2 and so on).

	Driver Points Constructor/Engine Points
	Qualy	Finish	WDC Qualy	Finish

1	39	91	50 25	50
2	34	77	36 21	40
3	29	62	30 18	35
4	24	52	24 16	30
5	21	43	20 14	25
6	19	38	16 12	24
7	18	34	12 11	23
8	17	30	8 10	22
9	16	26	4 9	18
10	15	25	2 8	17
11	14	24	0 7	16
12	13	23	0 6	15
13	12	22	0 5	14
14	11	21	0 3	13
15	10	20	0 2	12
16	9	19	0 1	11
17	8	18	0 0	10
18	7	17	0 0	9
19	6	16	0 0	8
20	5	15	0 0	7

So driver 1 scores from categories a, b & f.

'a' relates to laps completed. If he finishes a 70 lap race he gets 70pts.

'b' relates to finishing position. If the driver finishes 1st he will get 91pts according to the above table.

'f' relates to starting position. If he starts the race from pole position he gets 39pts.

So in total, driver 1 will have scored 70 + 91 + 39 = 200pts in that race.

Driver 4 scores from categories c, d & f.

c' gets points for finishing higher than he started. If he started 15th and finished 5th he would have climbed 10 places x 9 = 90pts.

'd' relates to a points finish. For 5th place he would get 10 WDC points (x 2) = 20pts.

'f' is starting position. If he starts 15th he will score 10pts according to the above table.

So driver 4 would get 90 + 20 + 10 = 130pts.

It is the same story for the constructor and engine except that they use their own table above.

That is for the tie breaker, if more than one team has the top overall points.

That is the time that I think the winner will complete the Abu Dhabi race.

1 hour, 34 minutes and 50.094 seconds

It is actually Bottas' finishing time last year.  He finished 4th, 44.379 seconds behind the winner.

Seemed like a good time to guess.   :well:

Well, obviously the deadline to submit a team will be FP1 of the first official WDC round of F1.

Everybody has the ability to percolate on their teams.  Any changes or edits to your team do not count toward the change rules up until the deadline.

I will use the last submission prior to the deadline as your team.  Any submissions after the deadline will be considered a change applied to the team for the following race.

Remember you have a budget of 130.

If you sell a driver, constructor, engine or boss, there is a 10% fee based on your original purchase price.  The fee is not based on the updated costs.

GTA has 3 in the bank right now, Kev00 has 1 in the bank right now and everyone else used up all of the budget.

Here are the updated costs.

	Driver Number	Updated Cost
MERC	Lewis Hamilton 44 31
