I just watched Autosports clip about Lamborghini getting better and better at racing; most recently with their win at Daytona.

It made me think about F1. Lamborghini would make a great addition to Formula One. They've been there before, they'd be another italian team with an instant rivalry with Ferrari.
And with the VW money behind it; anything could happen.

Yes, I know all the problems with Dieselgate and VW backing from racing, but one day they'll probably get over that.
And while going with a Bugatti F1 team would also make sense; Lamborghini would be slightly cooler.

(I wouldn't mind two teams a'la Red Bull either. :D )

But aren’t they just Audi’s R8s with a different body?

or R8s are Hurracans with a different body? But yes they do share the same drivetrain.

Seriously doubt ANY new manufacturer will enter the money pit that is F1, unless they do what Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin are doing, and just re-badge an engine.

They might well enter Formula E, though.

We've had the story of VW entering F1" every odd year since when? 1980ies?

Lamborghini today is imho just a name without a soul.

No chance, unless it's a marketing type deal like Alfa and Aston

Lamborghini came close to announcing a GTE programme a couple of years ago - but it fell through, for whatever reason.

VAG will never join F1. There is an infinite bigger chance that Ford buys into Haas and supplies them with championship winning engines next year. And thats not gonna happen either so....

I don't know if they are getting better, but winning BoPed races is no indication.

VAG's main goal is to compete with Tesla, and be seen as a technology company. Don't see F1 as being important to achieving that. https://www.ft.com/c...28-dd0f971febbc

It's like hearing the first cuckoo of spring - the first 'VAG to F1' thread of the year!

Not going to happen - not before nor since the diesel cheat fiasco.  But if it did, the right choice of marque would be Porsche.  Won GPs with their own car and engine, and lots more as an engine supplier.  Lamborghini dabbled in their Chrysler days and got just the one podium from 88 starts - so, better than Hulkenberg, but only just.  Porsche carries the banner of motor racing icon in the  VAG.

With the recession coming (or is it already here?) I suppose the thought of entering F1 will be met with laughter in the Vw board meetings. If they can still laugh after the whole supply chain crumbling, that is.

Well, they could buy Haas, of course.

Seriously: not. Gonna. Happen.

VAG's strategy is no more ICU-based factory racing/rallying efforts, right? Even though F1 is full hybrid, it doesn't fit the bill.

I thought that was for Volkswagen itself rather than VAG as a whole. But yeah, I don't see any VAG brand in F1 anytime soon...

The electric only motorsport does only apply to VW not the VAG group as a whole, but it’s still highly likely to rule out an F1 engine programme for any of the VAG brands (unless the future PU rules swing massively towards being a primarily electric formula).

I’m expecting at least one VAG brand into LMDh though, perhaps as more of a customer programme rather than a flagship factory effort.

Winning a BoP class like GT3 is pretty irrelevant.

Do Lamborghini sell enough cars for F1 to be a good marketing investment?

I imagine their utterly, incredibly hideous new SUV has built quite a bit of volume. They sold 8.5k last year, I'd assume circa 8-10K this year now the Urus is flowing. Ferrari have intentionally sold more than they used to recently - up to 10K - so there or thereabouts.

No brand of the Volkswagen Group will enter Formula One. I believe this is this year's first topic about a brand of the Volkswagen Group entering Formula One and hope it will be the last one. Every year we have countless topics about the Volkswagen Group entering Formula One and the answer is always the same: no, no and no, they are not going to do so.
