Frankly, I think any talk of any motor racing taking place in 2020 might be very optimistic at the early stage.

I really, really hope that this all blows over and we find ourselves laughing in a couple of month's time at the state we managed to work ourselves into.

However, the pessimistic part of me worries this virus could run for the next 6/9/12 months, following which we spend the the next few years rebooting our economies and repairing the damage.

Yesterday it was reported that Ferrari's factory is (practically) closed, enabling the Scuderia to further develop the car. How are other teams coping with the crisis? If the teams based elsewhere are able to keep their factories open, the situation will only get worse from a sporting perspective.

Lots of races across lots of series will be cancelled - stop thinking F1 only.

And you say this in a thread about F1. Brilliant.

Thank you for saying this. I believe this too and I think some people just don't get that this is not the same as, say 2008.

Yes.

There is one important difference between now and 2008.

In 2008 normal life largely continued, even if there was some downsizing here and there.

In 2020 normal economic activity has effectively ceased.

These two cases aren't even in the same league in terms of impact.

The only question is for how long will this last and how the virus behaves.

I personally expect the current one to be at least on par with 1930 Great Depression, if not worse.

Shouldn't the question be: What races will go ahead. At least for March and April? Are there yet any races which will happen in these two months?
