I used nickserv to register my IRC nick a few weeks ago. Now, nickserv asks me for my password every time I connect to the AtlasF1 IRC server.

Nickserv is only supposed to resolve nick conflicts in case of nick duplication with a registered nick, not every time that a registered nick connects.

Please fix it. This is only a minor aggravation, but an aggravation, nonetheless.

Thanks!

Cole-B
(That's both my AtlasF1 ID and my IRC nick.)

The nickserver is not broken. It is doing exactly what it is designed to do. Part of the function of the nick server is to prevent imposters from assuming a registered nickname in the chat room. The nick server is asking you to prove who you are before it will allow you to assume a registered nickname. This is so you cannot be impersonated.

Well, David, I guess that makes sense. Malicious impersonation never entered my mind. You're right.

(Guess I should go hassle the folks on EFnet or DALnet - don't remember which of them has the nickserv - because theirs *doesn't* guard against impersonation. :) )

Thanks again!

Andreas - yes

Cole-B, if you're connecting with an IRC client (such as pirch or mirc), do /nickserv help access for instructions on how you can use your nickname without having to enter the password every time you connect.

bira, will do. Thanks! I guess you're never too old to learn.

Andreas, to answer your question, the Atlas IRC server is *outstanding.* It exhibits a lot fewer problems than the usual IRC machines.

Also, the folks who congregate on the server make it a real pleasure to hang out on Atlas IRC... Thanks, everyone! (I've still got a "warm fuzzy" from the lively chat today during the race. *Lots* of fun! )

irc.atlasf1.com is correct

andreask depending on the irc client that you are using you will have to point it at the port (8000) as well

e.g. irc.atlasf1.com:8000

it can be either port 8000 or port 6667. Most, if not all of the irc clients come with port 6667 being the default. If you didn't change that, then you don't need to enter the port. Doing /server irc.atlasf1.com will connect you just fine.
