1. How long until Mario comes back
2. At what point does Roger go "I want to run a car at Indy...for myself"
3. I think I technically raced in a CART affiliated series, I'll be 40 this summer, can I wildcard as a legend?
4. Pick better tracks, Watkins is ****.

Barber's not likely to be much better. But I'll wager we'll see Mario, or Michael even, long before RP.

Yeah have em do the Monza road-oval course in speedway configuration. Run a trial at Richmond or Daytona(old Daytona with the bumps). Run some proper fantasy races. Don't give us the same high downforce no passing zone **** we already have to watch on TV.

The upside is hanging out here with the best group of racing fans in the world.

It popped up in my recommended list on youtube so I caught the last 20 mins or so.  I watched through gritted teeth as I dislike the track but it was very good and waaaay better than the feeble effort F1 put in.  (and the game looks way better than the codemasters nonsense ..if only it worked on my console haha)

This was decent. Not close to the real thing, but way better than the other sim raves I've tried to enjoy lately.

Also, do any of the pros use VR headsets? I figured it'd be more immersive for them. Also the spouses have got to favor it over the monitorstrosities.

When I did this once the VR headset was so nice.  When you move your head the scene changes so looking for apex and out is much nicer.  Feels more real.  The nauseousness after though wasn't great but my friend who iRaces said you get used to it as you do it more,

Hated other racing games because I would always look off screen for the apex

Can't wait for the final race at Bathurst - It HAS to be Bathurst!

Huge pace difference. As this becomes more common, backmarkers will come closer of course.
Impressed with the broadcast Indycar managed to make of this.  For a first try.
Next time hopefully more cars and better prepared drivers.
Let's hope sponsors like it so we can look forward to more exposure to star drivers.

Great chance also to salute racing history.
Did you guys catch the legends in the old Brabham cars? Looked pretty legit.

The hell did I end up 4th... I thought I picked Herta.  Or were there only 4 entrants?

This was awesome!  I hope they make it a regular winter series feature during the long sad off-season.  What a joy to watch.  Yeah, a quick yellow or two wouldn't hurt, would it?  But it was pretty much almost as engrossing than the real thing, with out beloved heroes (and without the 4th-wall-breaking sim racers I really don't care to watch winning over the drivers I know and love).

Next week, we might have 30 cars or more on the grid, if all the ones who missed their equipment today make it, too.

This means... SATOOOOOO too!

Edit: oh I see, we get points for correctly guessing podium positions, too... lucked out with Karam 1st and Power 3rd, my saving grace!  :stoned:

Pagenaud has a VR headset but says he couldn't handle several hours of it.

Watched, F1 got schooled so hard by Indycar that you wonder which of those two is more professional.

This had a quality feel, whereas the F1 race felt like a PS4 afternoon with friends.

Big Kudos for Indycar and all the pro guys participating!!

I didn't know Karam is sim race car driver. Anyone else? Looks like Karam and Rosenqvist has no competition in this.

It was run pretty well, just surprised at the pace difference between the drivers.

What shocks me most is we are on a motorsport forum and most people are like "wow this iracing is great, looks great, what's this all about" .. really?? Where you been?

I was piecing something together for Actual Barber than can probably be adapted to Virtual Barber, since it probably won't happen this year otherwise.

This was fun. But iracing Indycar is not as Indycar as Indycar.

The upside is hanging out here with the best group of racing fans in the world.

I don't know, McLaughlin still managed to get short-fueled, evidently.  And there was two-thirds of Team Foyt dropping out early for reasons the broadcasters never really explained, and which I hope were unrelated to the robustness of their internet connections.  :smoking:   And there was the never-ending interview with Hinch during the last ten laps of the race!  To be fair, at least it wasn't a wife or girlfriend in the pits, but still.  :well:

Mostly what I learned from the post-race interviews is that you really want to know how extravagant the home computer gaming setups of the drivers are.  Which is evidently the new form of, "How fast you go depends on how much money you've got."   :D

And we're clearly having more fun than the F1 crowd, which is having to make do with a lengthy retrospective on Damon Hill's career, on-track behavior, and social status within the British class system.  We rule!

I thought I read that there will NOT be a "championship" from IndyCar's side (which I think is a shame, given that they have otherwise treated it like a very REAL event)...?  Also don't see any standings posted anywhere.

I am assuming they are going to be adding points from irace to irace. DS27s screencap should be updated after the next race.

which is weird cause McLaughlin didn't fix his front wing until his first stop at lap 15

I enjoyed the race, mostly cause of the drivers' pov on Twitch

it was really fun to watch McLaughlin all race

It's an iRacing oddity. You can have half your car missing and carry on, or sometimes you ding a wing and you get the meatball flag.

Nice kit helps, but it's certainly not the be-all and end-all. You need to know how to use it.

Timmy Hill won the NASCAR iRace with a 10yr old entry level wheel clamped to his desk against people with $10,000 rigs.

*Edit: So say, it's the brake pedals that make a big difference. So, on ovals this is less of as disadvantage.

That looks remarkably similar to my setup from the mid-90's for playing Papyrus's NASCAR racing game, the last time I ventured into any kind of racing sim.  How long ago was it?--my cars bore number 20 because it wasn't currently in use--Tony Stewart was still in the IRL!

I'm a little suspicious of that. I had a setup not much better, maybe slightly worse, and the flex was terrible. The seat rocks back when you brake, for one.
