Voting has opened at Formula1.com to choose the identity of the classic race to be broadcast next Wednesday, 15 April.

We have a pretty clear choice (without giving too much away) between:

  • Duel (1987 British Grand Prix)
  • Standout individual performance (1996 Spanish Grand Prix)
  • Chaos! (1999 Australian Grand Prix)

Which one will you choose?

I'm going to keep voting for the 1987 British GP, but I'd happily watch any of these three.

Strange that the two "losers" from the last vote have been carried over.

Indeed. I thought the unwritten rule for these things is that the runner up gets carried over to have another chance, but anything lower is eliminated.

I think someone at FOM really wants to show Spain 1996.

If the poll in the last thread here was any indication, there are lots of people who want to watch all three.

Some of these have already been complied and shown before in recent years... hence them pushing them continuously as options....

1987 British GP! We've had a lot of late 80s stuff lately.

1987 British GP for sure. Who doesn't love a charging Mansell with a brilliant pass!?

*Waits patiently for Mexico 1990*

Australia ‘99. It was a great opening act of a crazy season and kind of showed what was to come.

I remember being so depressed on the Sat after a McLaren qualified like 1.5 seconds ahead too.

F1 releasing a Top 10 Home wins-video on their official YT-channel all but confirms that it's going to be the 1987 British GP. Good choice.

EDIT: Nigel's 1987 win is their #1. Couldn't be more obvious now.

I rewatched Australia 1999 last week and thought it was actually a bit boring (the same I thought back in 1999).

Never seen British GP 1987, but judging by the amount of positive comment it could be quite nice to watch it.

My vote goes for Spain though, would be nice to see it again.

Some good ones in that list. Not all obvious choices.

The race when Italian Riccardo Patrese crashed out of the lead, handing the race to Frenchman Patrick Tambay's Ferrari. So naturally the crowd erupted in celebration.

Edit: Anyway I've ruined the ending now so no need for F1 to replay that one!

Imola 1990 might be a good one though, and that was a home win for Patrese. But people probably remember it for other things.

Patrese had just taken the lead in that Imola race, too, which was apparently met with stony silence. Until he hit the wall and the crowd went mad. Poor bloke.

Fortunately this means that the 1996 Monaco Grand Prix spotter's guide can be used with minimal changes:

I'd love some races from the 70's please (My utter dream would be USA 1971 but I'm not even sure footage of it exists)

Spain 96 is a classic though, Michael making a complete mockery of the others, especially the Williams which was the best car by a country mile in 96.

Not to rain on the parade (It's one of the great wet weather wins regardless) but didn't Damon Hill dominate the 1996 Brazilian Grand Prix in atrocious conditions? I think he may have even lapped Schumacher if my memory is right?

Sometimes things get taken over by too much rose tint. Schumacher had a full wet set-up in Spain (another thing overlooked) and the Ferrari, whilst being clearly inferior to the Williams for most of 1996, wasn't a midfield car.

Out of Schumachers 3 wins, this was the one that really stood out. Spa 1996, for example, was a great race with a great duel with Villeneuve... but Michael did benefit from the safety car period getting him ahead of Jacques.

MS was fantastic in 1996 don't get me wrong. But a bit of perspective tends to be lost when discussing his season.

Now sponsored by DHL, #MomentsThatDeliver.

Does the hashtag suggest that F1 are purposely choosing races defined by """moments""" (e.g. first win, championship deciders, etc.) rather than actually fun races?

Banner is still super slick!

He also dominated the recelntly broadcasted Monaco 96 GP, until his car gave up. Of course Michael crashed on the 1st lap (on his own), so we can't compare them, but still Damon was way ahead of the rest when he stopped.

Indeed. I am expecting a win for Hill, maybe Alesi not too far behind, with Schumacher and Villeneuve struggling. A good chance for another podium for Panis

There were three (at least partly) wet races of the first six in Barcelona. But there has not been one since.

Yep. And there's probably not English commentary for every race in full until the 1990s.
