I remember back in 2006 Alonso saying that he doesn't plan to stay in F1 as long as Schumacher and that he might retire after winning the third title. That obviously didn't go as planned and now we have a 41 year old Alonso still driving for a few more years, saying he enjoys just driving.
Now, I believe 25 year old Alonso indeed believing what he said, thinking he was too cool for F1. I also believe 41 year old Alonso realizing nothing brings him the joy like driving F1 car and wanting to stay as long as possible, just for the fun of driving. But I also believe that in the back of his head, he still dreams about getting that third title, however unlikely it might be.
So, let's say Alonso won 5 titles (2007, 2010 and 2012). And maybe even 2017 and 2018, had he stayed in Ferrari.
Do you think in this case he would still now drive in midfield cars, just for the fun of it? Or would he retire for good back in 2018, or maybe even 2014?

I think if Alonso had won any title for Ferrari, he wouldn't still be here now.

What if Brundle had stayed in Jordan in '97 or taken the Sauber seat mid-season when it was offered. In the Jordan could've won a race potentially like Hill could've done.
