Just wanted to announce that I am now currently working on Volume 2 of my book. It'll be the same as the first one, a mixture of pictures from different sorts of race meetings, already I have earmarked images from the paddock of the 1969 French Grand Prix, the 1969 Race Of Champions, the 1968 British Grand Prix, the 1970 Ontario 500, rare photos from Garneton in Northern Rhodesia in the early 60's, the 1970 Guards Trophy Meeting, a test day for the Richard Lloyd Racing Porsche 956 at Brands Hatch, hillclimbs in the late 60's and early 70's and much more. Of course, the first volume is still available at www.shutterandspeed.com The price has not changed, it's still £15 plus P&P. Feel free to bookmark that page or even join the Facebook group, you can find us easily. Of course, now I've made the decision to produce I'm in a race against time to get it finished for Christmas.

An update! I completed work on Volume 2 back in August but because of an impending house sale/move I put the production of the book on hold. Now the move has been completed (I'm now living in Nairobi in Kenya) we will now be moving forward with getting the book printed. Obviously, being so far away from the UK presented problems with the mail order side of things. But just last week I spoke with someone who will now be handling all of that for me. Incidentally, he is the guy who looks after the mail order for David Weguelin's highly regarded MFQ set of DVDs. With any luck the proof copy of the book will be printed before Christmas, once I have ok'd that, we can print the actual books, stay tuned! Oh, we'll be using the same website as before www.shutterandspeed.com

Hi Terry. At the moment we aren't able to process any orders due to my move to Nairobi. But, my new mail order guy is ok with processing new orders for both Volume 1 and the new book. Ok, it's now ready. You all can now order Volume 2 from the website www.shutterandspeed.com We've just gone 'live' for orders. In this book there is things like paddock images from the 1969 French GP, Northern Rhodesia in the late 50s, colour pictures from a club sprint at Catterick Barracks in 1958, the 1971 Race of Champions and much, much more. The same price as before, £15 plus P&P.

Gary, I take it there is no numbered edition like Vol 1? Just asking based on the previous discussion we had in the Vol 1 thread on matching up the same number edition. Also what's the post cost to Australia please?

Gary's second volume of archive motor racing photographs  Shutter and Speed 2  has just touched down and it is excellent absolutely packed with pictures in both B&W and colour . This all new collection is laid out in both chronological  and theme order with both identification and comments from some people who were there at the time .  122 pages softback on nice smooth art paper approx 9"  X 9" nicely printed a great deal to look at in this volume  of racing cars over the past  in the 60s 70s and 80s.

The book arrived yesterday and I've already devoured it (in a literary, rather than literal manner!) The photos from the 1969 Race of Champions were very evocative for me - I was there, in the paddock, at the same time! I recall Bruce & Denny driving their cars into the paddock from the pits, Bruce eating a ham sandwich with one hand while steering with the other... It's amazing how the memories have stayed with me - everything looked so familiar!

It leads me to thinking, maybe there needs to be a sort of Wiki-photo library for every one of these events - then we could all have fun picking out the same picture from a myriad of different angles...

Anyway, I can strongly recommend this book - nostalgia at its best!

Mine arrived yesterday. I particularly like the F3 1 litre car & Saloon car photos as I'd probably seen most of those cars and drivers at Croft, July 1970 at which point I got hooked on the F3s......Also, the hillclimb photos [I'd been going to the Barbon round since 1968]......the David Good 'incident' at Shelsley, I have a 2021 Motor Racing Memories Calendar with a picture of that incident from a different angle !  Plus plenty of the red, white & gold Gold Leaf colours, my favourite colour scheme of all time. My copy also arrived Saturday and it proved to be a superb escape on a snowy Sunday.  The Catterick Sprint pictures are fabulous.  Put me down for a Volume 3 as well!

Well said, Richard! I can only echo the many nice comments of the others.

 

It is really an excellent mixture of venues and views, if you will, something not seen enough in my opinion.

 

It was well worth the wait and a damn good job to boot.

 

The Ontario and Stein Porsche material are enough alone to make the effort worthwhile.

 

Again, I really like the mixture and the bit-of-this-bit-of-that in this one. It brings home the variety and span of motor sport.

 

I really enjoy this series and look forward to Volume 3, which will find a nice home next to the previous two volumes.

Both my volumes arrived  . Quick glance shows them my sort of book.  A full read will have to until we can go on holiday so I can sit and savour with a glass (bottle  ) of red and not feel guilty about not doing other things. I also have a book on Sir Nigel Gresley waiting the same fate.

Some headline news on this New Year's Day. Those nice people at BHP Publishing (Darren and Kevin) have agreed to publish volume 3 of 'Shutter and Speed'. We're hoping it will be published by November this year- keep 'em peeled!
