F1 have gone back beyond the turbo-hybrid era for this weekend's classic race: the dramatic and championship-deciding 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Alonso versus Vettel, with a wide range of supporting characters, and, of course, the final ever race for HRT.

The year of the bizarre stepped noses, right?

I'm interested to know how accurate my memory of Nico Hulkenberg is.

I don't usually bother with the recent classics but to be fair this was probably the most exciting and tense GP I've ever seen. So I'd love to see it again.

An amazing finale to a great season. Shame we haven't had a season where nearly all the cars were so close since. I still remember in Valencia Q2 for example Alonso was only 0.2 off the fastest time and still got eliminated that would be unheard of now. 2012 was a special season and good year for me personally so always hold it with fond memories.

Remember really wanted Alonso to win the title mainly because am a team enstone fan and when vettel had his issue was cheering quite a bit but that was the 16 year old me being quite immature to be honest and looking back at it Seb did a great job with the car that was badly damaged although the rain did save him if I recall. His 4 back to back victories at the end of the year showed he was a worthy champion as well although Alonso deserved it more in my view.

Also this with 2008 is evidence why the finale should be at Brazil as it gives that more unpredictability factor especially with the weather.

Great pick. The opening laps were very dramatic!

I’m not sure I can watch this. I’ll be rooting for a different outcome, even though I know it’s not possible. Vettel 4 vs Alonso 2 is a patently absurd statistic.

This is a good choice for a re-run. You have the championship battle between Vettel and Alonso and you have the completely separate battle for the race win between Button, Hulkenberg and Hamilton. Lot's of stories in the race.

Plus, the graphic above reminds me that Charles Pic and Narian Karthikeyan were actually employed in F1 when Robin Frijns wasn’t.

What a world.

Great field of drivers!

Looking forward to all the Hulkenberg detractors being reminded that he didn't just chuck the car off the road going for the win but there was a Caterham trundling awkwardly in the corner too, not that I blame the Caterham, but it wasn't a cut and dried Hulk choke....

Unrelated, but any reason why all those races are at 2 pm UTC, which is even later than the already late Liberty Starting Time?

Hopefully they arent doing this to test the waters....

There's very rarely commentary from the Croft-Brundle era that sticks in my mind, but Brundle exclaiming, "fastest lap of the race? Sebastian Vettel!" at the end of lap 3, does.

Well, despite the dominating narrative F1 is not an individual sport so that statistic is useless in my book.   ;)

Senna, Schumacher and Karthikeyan. Three of the greatest names in the sport's history.

I still don't understand how Vettel didn't get a penalty for that lap 1 incident. It was entirely his fault, and he wiped out Senna in the process.

If that was Grosjean instead of Raikkonen when he locked up at turn 3. Vettel would of been rear ended before his potential collision with bruno. Forgot how close that was.Great driving from Kimi.

Never knew / forgot that Heikki was driving such a blinder early on in this race.

Oh, and the obligatory crap McLaren pit stop.

Hamilton had more races with pitstop issues than without this season. No wonder he wanted out. Somehow Button rarely had pitstop and mechanical issues.

To be honest Senna made his move from very far back. Going into the braking zone it was Vettel, then di Resta and Räikkönen side-by-side (with Kimi locking and going off) and then Senna.

I really don't remember Inters being the better tyre, but they clearly were for a handful of laps. Masterful from Button and Hulkenberg.
