Camilleri’s plans also include evaluating other racing programs. Ferrari is considering IndyCar and, for the first time, running at Le Mans in the prototype category. It has traditionally raced only in the GT classes.

“We’re studying Indy,” he said. “It depends somewhat on the flexibility in terms of their future regulations,” he added, noting that the chassis and the aerodynamics are pretty standard, “which we understand they’ve done as a cost-containment exercise.”

It has to be an error of translation or something like that.

Nothing like the internet, where any mistake results in crucifixion of the author.

Sure, but they're not Autosport or Motorsport or someone who really should get it right.

Ford v Ferrari was not a popular movie, was it...

Jp is right. This is the type of issue (i.e. outright factual errors that are easy to verify) that is causing the mainstream press all sorts of credibilty problems when it should be a cornerstone of the societies in which we live.

Ferrari in IndyCar won't happen. First of all the problems they have in Formula 1 now and second Le Mans would make more sense.

Question for me though is what 'flexibilty' in the future IndyCar regulations do Ferrari want?

If not allowing design authority of the chassis/aero is a deal breaker for Ferrari, surely that rules out both IndyCar and LMDh? I can't see either IndyCar or IMSA bending to that wish because of the scale of the change of technical direction it would entail.

LMH on the other hand would allow them to design their own chassis whilst also having access to the blue-riband IMSA endurance races.

Sadly, I think you are right.  Although a return to Le Mans and the WEC would also be good to see.

It's not as if you were a regular Indycar viewer before, is it? Not exactly a regular in the Indycar threads.

I’ve watched a decent amount of the races in the universal aero kit era.

IndyCar scored the own goal of all own goals with that horrific windshield. I just can’t watch it anymore. It’s not a good investment for Ferrari to get into the series now.

If the deflector shield shield is keeping you from watching a series that has some of the most competitive fields in the whole of motorsport I would suggest either a car show or an auction.

That's the kind of puff piece, thinly veiled PR that usually isn’t checked for minor errors.

As an early and vocal critic of the aesthetics of the DEFLECTOR SHIELD, I can say in truth, the appearance no longer bothers me nor detracts from the racing.

And Ferrari have decided against this, it would seem.

Translated...

”It’s bad enough to get beaten by Mercedes and Renault and Honda every week but it would be doubly embarrassing to get beaten by Honda and GM in a spec series.”

Motorsport.com: IndyCar remains in talks with Ferrari, despite rumours | https://www.motorspo...mpaign=widget-2

Today, Motorsport.com’s Italian sources reported that a decision has been made at Maranello to not go the IndyCar route but instead tackle a sportscar project with the target being overall victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Ferrari marque last triumphed overall at Le Mans in 1965, when the NART-entered Ferrari 250LM of Jochen Rindt and Masten Gregory prevailed.

In response to Motorsport.com’s enquiry regarding IndyCar, Roger Penske responded with a written statement: “Attracting additional OEMs is one of our key strategies for the NTT IndyCar Series. We continue to have in depth conversations with several different companies who remain interested in joining the sport. Ferrari is one of those brands who have shown interest and we remain in conversations with them about the opportunity to join IndyCar.”

That sounds a lot more like Roger Penske saying 'Well, Ferrari haven't officially told us they won't yet' with a thick layer of wishful thinking than the title of the article suggests...

OEMs are setting themselves up for a world of hurt if they now all rush to LeMans, because only ONE of them can win that ONE race every year.   History will repeat itself again, with manufacturers pulling out again once they realize they're not winning.  An IndyCar investment would make a whole lot more sense    ;)

Not really, there is also only one winner a year for the Indy 500 and nobody outside the aficionados cares about the other Indycar races.
