HI,

I am looking to find Results and Photos from the July 29 1922 Ealing MCC meeting at Brooklands .

In a 1968 issue of Motor Sport Magazine Bill Body mentions this meeting and discusses the success of the Wolseley race cars at it.

My great grandfather Arthur John McCormack was MD at Wolseley at the time and is the entrant of the cars but not the driver. They were driven by Miller, Don and others.

However, in this article Bill Body talks about B. McCormack as the driver  - thats my grandfather Brian McCormack.

We did not know he raced in the cars and Mr Body says he won.

"Driven by B. McCormack, the smaller car won its race at the Ealing M.C.C. Meeting, at 75.12 m.p.h." says Body in the Motorsport article "Racing Wolseleys" , March 1968

The smaller car he mentions must be the Wolseley 10 or Moth and not the 200 mile race car (but im not sure).

Does anyone have the race program or photo's of the car races at that meeting. I understand it was mostly motorcycle races with a few car races tucked in.

I have looked at LAT and Getty images but find none of this race. There is a great photo on LAT  of Miller in the big Wolseley at the event from July 22 but nothing from July 29.

Many Thanks for any answers or pointers.

Richard

There are a few more LAT pictures on Austin Harris's website:

I'm afraid WB is sometimes not the most reliable source. Here are the results of the two Ealing MCC car races from The Times, July 31st 1922, p16:

Handicap Car Race (under 1500cc). Three laps.

1 Captain AG Miller (Wolseley) 27 secs. Won by 100 yards. Winner's speed 75.12mph.

2 Major WH Oates (Lagonda) scratch.

3 WD Hawkes (Morgan) 21 secs.

Six started.

Handicap Car Race (unlimited). Three laps.

1 RM Knowles (Vauxhall) 2 min 10 secs. Close finish at 73.35mph.

2 Captain AG Miller's Viper (driver Kaye Don) scratch.

3 H Oates (Lagonda) 1 min 27 secs.

Dear Vitesse2,

Thanks for this. Very disappointing not to see my Grandfathers name but this is no real surprise as Miller was the main driver of Moth and Body got the speed right (even thought he was writing his article in 1968 vs 1922).

Ah well.

I will still hunt for event photo's from July 29th 1922 as Moth and Viper were both impressive (and probably LOUD) cars , esp. Viper with it's 11L engine.

Richard, if you haven't already looked perhaps the Brooklands Society have something in their photos or can help you out with the race card/programme. Period magazines The Autocar and The Motor will probably cover the event, again the Society may have these on file. If not, that might require contact or a visit to the Beaulieu Motor Museum archives..

As it was a joint Bemsee/Ealing MCC meeting there could be reports in The Motor Cycle and Motor Cycling too.
