Can anyone help? I've been going through some old photos and found 3 photyos of the Lotus 62 GLTL. The problem is I can remember where they were taken. The race nos are 128 & 129. I've searched racingsportscars.com and the i/net but can't find any Lotus 62s with those race nos. Anyone any ideas? Thanks

Nathan

Those race numbers suggest Brands Hatch to me. But I can't pin down a particular event.

Google Images throws up this:

AB149-E5-D-0-BAB-41-A4-A97-D-01-F1-BAE11

It’s apparently on a site called tumbral.com, but when I tried to follow it up I was told I had to subscribe. I tried to do this, but was first bombarded with pop-ups, then taken to Amazon Prime and invited to join. I gave up at this point.

So, does anyone recognise the location?

The same picture is on Autodiva - along with another two in colour and one in black & white. Identified there as one of the MN GT Championship races at Thruxton in 1969 - not, apparently, the October meeting, but earlier in the year; according to wsrp.cz there were no fewer than four MN GT rounds at Thruxton! March 13th, May 4th & 26th and October 12th. If it is Thruxton, the FIA Yellow Book calendar suggests it could also possibly be August 10th.

I'm not sure what the location is but it doesn't look as if it is a major event (i.e international meeting) going by the very modsport looking e-types on their trailers in the first photo above, so quite possibly an MN round. I don't remember these cars appearing that often club racing.

Presumably not competing, but unless my eyes deceive me that's a Reliant Scimitar GTE behind the chap photographing the 62's wheel. And a white MGB in front of the Lotus transporter?

The one tree we can see appears to be in full leaf, so presumably not taken in March!

The MN GT round at Thruxton on October 12 1969 can be ruled out, the cover of October 16 1969 Autosport shows these cars with race numbers 176 and 177.

I remember reading a report of the works racing the 62s at Ingliston on one occasion, but I don't know the event was (and nor do I recall what the paddock looked like...). This may (or just as likely not) help!

According to Racing Sports Cars the GLTL 62s raced twice at Ingliston in 1969. In July they carried 50 and 51; in October 41 and 42:

Sweaters and coats in evidence, so probably the May date.  Although given English summers, August could be possible!

I can't help with where the pics were taken but they show all the aero. add on's very well.

John Miles said it went fastest before they added the bodywork. As soon as the bodywork went on the lift wrecked the corning grip!

IIRC it used a lot of spare Lotus 49 suspension  and brake parts - hence the 15" wheels .

Also  here is interesting long pole thing with an end plate in picture 2 - is it a scrutineers ground clearance checker?

Page 25 of the September 25 1969 issue of Autosport has a picture of Roy Pike's Lotus 62 with race number 129 leading Alistair Cowin's McLaren M1C through the Thrutxton Club chicane during the Motoring News GT race held on September 21.

https://www.racingsp...5-26-10745.html gives Alistair Cowin McLaren Mark IIIB fastest lap and notes 2 Lotus entered.

No race on September 21th but Roy Pike as winner with number 177 and Brian Muir on pole with number 176, both in Lotus 62 on October 12th 1969.

Clearly we are now living in an age in which 'if it's not on the internet it didn't happen'...

Not only was there a Motoring News GT race at Thruxton on September 21 1969, there were also races that year at Brands Hatch on April 27, Mallory Park on June 5, Croft on June 30, Silverstone on August 24 and Brands Hatch on September 7. But as these are not shown on the aformentioned website, perhaps I imagined them...

Of course I believe you. I was merely trying to help. Do you remember if the Lotus 62's had number 128 and 129 on September 21th?

Christer, Small Block's post says that there is a photo of the car racing at Thruxton on September 21st, showing the race number 129. I don't think you can get much more of a definitive answer than that!

Now you are just trying to confuse things!

"October 21st September 1969"

It has already been established that the event in question took place on SEPTEMBER 21st 1969!

I saw one - or at least a replica - on the back of a truck heading North on (I think) the M1 on Saturday. Not something you see every day.
