Someone want to step up to the plate and do a quick opening post for the race weekend? I would do it but I have a pig of a work day tomorrow.

I can agree that the perennial incompetence of the stewards is a barrier to such a system - but it really says something that the world's elite motorsport series cannot implement reasonable measures that other series handle with relative ease and with little controversy. IndyCar have had the system for as long as I can remember (admittedly, this might not be very long...!), and I can recall only one steward blunder (Rosenqvist at Laguna Seca last year); it has otherwise been used consistently and without controversy.
In a nutshell, it's a shame that F1 can't have nice things.
Correct about Rosenqvist...unfortunately F1 cant do simple things...

It's great to watch but have to say I'm not a massive fan of the amount of coaching going on!

Tom should do it, he's a hard act to follow but I'll do it if nobody else is taking up the cudgels. If all are prepared to wait until early afternoon, with the help of plagiarising some of Tom's work I'll cobble together some miserable effort.
No effort is required for a double header, tbh.
Media day isn't until Thursday so it's no sweat. I'll definitely do something tomorrow evening though. I don't mind if someone steps on my toes, however!

Past experience leads me to disagree, especially a car driving through a gravel trap, but I bow down to your obvious greater knowledge!
Well, regarding the hosting of the Aus GP it has been established I had a better take on it then you, that we can establish :-).
We can also establish that in fact Bottas rotated in the grass and was stationary for a moment. I now understand you as an experienced marshals could have predicted whether this would or would not happen.
What other magic capabilities do you possess?

You could easily find yourself out in Q2 if you are too stingy with the soft tire running. Teams seem to require two runs per session.
The problem now is Pirelli have forced teams to only have 8 soft tires per weekend this season. That is down from the traditional 9 and 10 sets that most teams selected last year. Nowadays most teams will find they only have 1 set left in Q3 if they did more than 1 run in Q1 and Q2. Even the big 3 teams would struggle to run a 3rd set of new softs in Q3.
There's no big difference since there are seven sets of tyres for qualifying and race as it was last year and teams must have one set of each compound among those. So it's usually 1 hard, 1 medium and 5 soft or 1 hard, 2 medium and 4 soft regardless of the original allocation.

Absolutely not treading on your toes, I wouldn't dream of it. Just trying to help out, there are a further six in the next seven weeks, even I would get cheesed off by then. I'll cobble something together and put it up in the next hour or two.

So is there a new thread for this weekend's race or we'll use this one? I couldn't find any for FP1 and FP2.
