Wasn't it more to do with the reds giving up?O'Ward's set-up went a bit south by the end, Rosenqvist's didn't, so Felix was able to hunt him down.

O'Ward ran scuffed reds on his last stint.
Toyota has been in Indycar before powering AAR chassis, among others.

Yup. With more practice time to nail down the set-up, they may have been able to extend the life of those reds so Felix wouldn't have been able to get in range.
Lack of time means they don't have the data to find that set-up. So, they guessed a bit.

Yes, but remember that Frozenquist was closing on Pato pretty steadily when both were on the blacks in the middle of the race, especially toward the end of the stints. M. Pruett's notes piece at Racer.com said, as did juicy sushi above, that Pato's team had a strong short-run set-up but not so for a long run. Perhaps they hoped Pato could pull out a bigger lead and hanging on by going to the reds while Felix was on blacks but that obviously didn't happen.

Rahal's crash was scary!! A foot to the left and he wouldn't be racing for a while... I bet RA puts tires there before the next race...
Could be, although in all the years I've seen races of many different kinds at RA, I can't recall anyone ever hitting that wall at that particular spot before. They've hit before they got to that gap (which is where safety trucks enter/exit if necessary) but not that far down. As far as I know, anyway.

Scott Dixon hasn't driven with a Toyota engine since 2005 (2009 if you include Lexus).

If no one's watching, it's not moving product, so why spend the money? They've already got one under-performing North American racing series to support, so aren't going to double down.
