Max Verstappen was up to his old tricks again in Austria-2 today, re-passing Valterri Bottas (around the outside!) after the Finn had completed a fairly inevitable overtake in the closing laps. In the end it didn't matter, as the Mercedes was faster. But it entertained us, and probably gave Bottas a fright. How does Max do it? What's he trying to achieve? Is it really the most rational calculation of risk-reward?
The people I associate those kinds of moves with are bike racers like Carl Fogarty, Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez. When anyone passed them, you knew that it would only be a few corners before they sent one back up the inside. Lot of world championships between them. Have I missed any other masters of the re-pass?
