On a slightly more serious note, is losing a weekend night on CBS to go to Thursday night on ESPN an improvement? This strikes me as a retrograde step dressed in nostalgic clothing.
That's what concerns me.
Thursday Night Thunder started out as a fun series, showcasing Midwestern USAC racing. It soon became a place for Midwestern bias, and worse...
Then it became all about pushing Jeff Gordon, then Tony Stewart, a few others to a lesser/less focused degree, then Bobby East. After they got them where they wanted, the series was irrelevant and quickly disappeared. I always figured they'd hang on until East got there. You know, helping those that helped.
Add in ESPN personel - including on air talent that was doing the announcing - being agents/managers for these same drivers they were so vigorously promoting, and one can see how deep the conflict of interest ran. It cost one, but no one else seemed to suffer any consequence from it.
Over at the other forum, they continually rail against ESPN over their "social agenda." (in other words, politics that aren't theirs) Perhaps that's what ESPN will push this time around. If so, it will be absolutely hilarious to see the reaction over there
