That was fun to watch.  Loved watching the father/son duo  (most fun I ever had was racing my boys in shifter karts and spec Miata)  and can not be failed to be impressed by awesome Bill and his kid.  Sure doesn't look or act 65!

Was never interested in short track racing but should have been living 30 minutes from Knoxville for 33 years!!

Poor George Russell should come over to SRX-  guarantee he won't get a grid penalty

SRX moves to ESPN this year under the Thursday Night Thunder banner used for dirt and short track racing from days gone by.

Does someone have a son/relative/client they want to push to the top again? Does Tony have a love child we aren't aware of?

Hopefully, if the same conflict of interest happens, it will be noticed...and reported, this time.

Well, Marco Andretti won the title this past season, so . . .

On a slightly more serious note, is losing a weekend night on CBS to go to Thursday night on ESPN an improvement?  This strikes me as a retrograde step dressed in nostalgic clothing.

Yeah, Thursday night is a weird time for anything. Saturday night sports is kinda too, do people watch TV on a Saturday night? I don't even know what the schedule is like.

Granted I haven't watched mainline TV in literally decades, but there used to be a rhythm to the broadcast week.

That's what concerns me.

Thursday Night Thunder started out as a fun series, showcasing Midwestern USAC racing. It soon became a place for Midwestern bias, and worse...

Then it became all about pushing Jeff Gordon, then Tony Stewart, a few others to a lesser/less focused degree, then Bobby East. After they got them where they wanted, the series was irrelevant and quickly disappeared. I always figured they'd hang on until East got there. You know, helping those that helped.

Add in ESPN personel - including on air talent that was doing the announcing - being agents/managers for these same drivers they were so vigorously promoting, and one can see how deep the conflict of interest ran. It cost one, but no one else seemed to suffer any consequence from it.

Over at the other forum, they continually rail against ESPN over their "social agenda." (in other words, politics that aren't theirs) Perhaps that's what ESPN will push this time around. If so, it will be absolutely hilarious to see the reaction over there

It's an All-Star racing series.  The only resemblance with the old ESPN series is the time slot.

I get that. I just wanted to give, as Paul Harvey used to say: "The rest of the story."   ;)

Personally, I don't think the current ESPN is organized enough to pull off what they did in an earlier era  :)

I presume they are not foolish enough to have the season extend into the timeframe for NFL Thursday night games?

Starting mid-July, and done mid-August.

My understanding is SRX has been and will still produce the broadcasts.  At least on ESPN the streams will be more readily available both live and replays.

But, who all is involved with production for SRX? Even though its been 30 years, and some have retired, there's a lineage of production and content crew that carries on down from the ESPN days.

A look at the key positions at any U.S. motorsport production would likely look like Hank Iba's "coaching tree" filled with former ESPN folks (now, there's a good, now obscure other sport reference   ;) )

My other thought. ****, has Bickford "found" someone else!  :D  He conned convinced Red Bull's Driver Search to take his client on as a candidate during the time Jeff had kicked him to the curb, despite said driver having no rear engine formula or road racing experience of any kind. Which also happened for Bobby East. They were the only two drivers in the Search that stood out like sore thumbs.

ESPN Thursday Night Thunder returns tonight with Camping World SRX series.

I’m just here to see Deegan put Tracy into the fence.  Again.   And see Schrader race.
