It probably deserves its own thread. I don't think it will be Stoffel - he's in a Formula E title battle for Mercedes. Sadly, I think he may well be Esteban.

I'm well up for Stroll Sr. How hard can this F1 driving business be?

I hope they can get Hulk as it would be the best car he has ever driven and I think he has enough experience to get up to speed fairly quickly. Gutierrez just seems like a guaranteed no points finish and would be a waste, but sadly Racing Point may not have a choice for this weekend at least.

A shame Stoffel is not available. Never really was a fan of him but I would be curious to see what he can do in a decent car, he did pretty well when he subbed for Alonso.

Hopefully it will be Hulkenberg. He will certainly be a better choice than Gutierrez who has never shown much speed in an F1 car.

So the theory now is Perez Out > replaced by Vettel > replaced by Sainz > replaced by Ric > replaced by Alonso?

Not what McLaren are saying. Probably not the way they would take it, but it would work out very well for RP's rivals if IndyCar reject Gutierrez gets the seat.

Esteban has already tried the car last year, the only difference is the color. That said I would not be surprised if they bring Vandoorne despite the Formula E race, but I hope to see Esteban.

I'd really like Russell to get the races, Aitken for Williams.

I sure hope Vandoorne doesn't get suckered into the seat.   He's better off in FE, where he has a shot at the title.

I'm afraid it'll be the Llama.  That guy has more lives than a cat.

I hope Hulk gets it, he has very recent F1 experience and for the most part will know the team well.

Well, anyone else within 50 miles of Silverstone with a Superlicense?

Where does Jenson Button live these days?

I really don't think Claire can afford to let him go at the moment so her team is Latifi and a rookie unless Stroll severly overpays.

I would like to see both Hülk and Gutierrez get that chance.

However, I would also love for a proper "random" choice like, Daniel Juncadella (he has worked with the team before), or as Vandoorne still has a theoretical chance to take the FE title, put in De Vries.

I miss all the "random" drivers that popped up in F1 previously, the last times that happened was Lotterer for Caterham and Klien for HRT.

No option for George Russell?

I’d love it to be Russell or Vandoorne. But it sounds like the smart money is on Gutierrez.

Does Racing Point have a few Mexican sponsors to keep happy?  If so it will be Gutierrez, although would be nice to see Hulk be called upon.

I would like Stoffel or, like some people suggested, Russel or Hulkenberg. But I think it'll be Gutierrez :(

If gutierrez has been traveling to all GPs then he's bound to be in car cause he's obviously been in a particular bubble already.

People like hulkenberg would need to be tested, checked the whole works before he's even aloud in the paddock.

That would be one of the "random" options I would love! :)

Also, I think Liberty would approve of this, driver from the USA in a car that is more than capable of getting good results.

No option for George Russell?

That would need Williams to agree as well I think and then probably Aitken to drop F2 - if so, who'll Campos get!  :p

Surely not Gutierrez? He was mediocre and has been out of it for years.

Give Hulk the podium!

I don't think that's fair, but I've always felt that Rossi never let the F1 fire completely blow out.

Unfortunately, Gutierrez makes the most sense.
Apart from Stroll Snr, obviously.

So Gutiérrez hasn't raced anywhere since IndyCar in 2017. I could have sworn I saw him in a race last year, but it must have been the 2018 Race of Champions.

I’d love it to be Hulk but it won’t be, Alonso would be a great surprise but, let’s be honest, it’s going to be Gutierrez isn’t it? And that doesn’t excite me at all.

Love Merc to pull a few strings and get Russell in that car to see what he can really do. But this is F1, and we can never have nice things, so it'll probably be some hideously underwhelming choice like Gutierrez.

With the kind of pace they've shown, they will try to get a better replacement imo. If that fails, then Gutierrez will step in.

If I recall correctly (which I usually don't), only Stroll and Perez have driven that car this year. So, would the latest person to drive it aside from them would be Valentino Rossi at that thing he and Hamilton did last year? Making the Italian the logical choice.

Just imagine if hulkenberg gets the drive abd blows stroll doors off at both the British GP races and get a podium or 2.

Think Perez and Vettel chances of the 2021 drive would go out the window very quickly

Don't think it's a 2019 car though that Rossi drove and anyway he's hardly setting the world a light in Moto GP now. What chance he got in F1 LOL

If they get Gutierrez in, the pink Mercedes will go from wasted to utterly wasted... :stoned:

Maybe that's their true punishment for the copy job, they did it perfectly to built the 2nd fastest car in the field, but will have nothing to show for it at  seasons end?
