Jean Behra - so similar in character to Depailler - at Avus in 1959.
Ivor Bueb, also in 1959, after his crash at Clermont Ferrand six days previously.
Gerhard Mitter, while practising for the 1969 German GP.
And of course today is the anniversary of the accident which came so close to ending Niki Lauda’s life during the 1976 German GP.

It was also the day when in 1954 I learned that my early hero Onofre Marimon had died at The Nürburgring on the previous day.

In this thread I was originally just going to mark the 40th anniversary of Patrick Depailler’s death after his accident testing at Hockenheim in 1980. Then it occurred to me that some other great names lost their lives on this day.

A sobering thought. Regrettable occurrences, though commonplace to those of us who have been around a while.
