More speculation has come out that this is a top priority and will be heavily focused on after this years 500.

**** track but affordable and lots of fun. Not sure if the Motel 6 is even there any longer but Uncle Chuck (who I visted a few weeks ago) are all in if this happens.

I'm not even sure who (of the original clan) is even around. We've lost some on the way and others have drifted.

That said we're keeping an eye out and will be making plans!

Interesting. They’ve changed the old F1 infield significantly since they last went there I believe?

Would be awesome to see them run the full oval circuit, but I know it isn’t going to happen. Would bring some real variety to the season, a totally different challenge.

Not sure if 16 years will have been long enough to forget the big **** up.

Always though it was strange that they didn’t stick it out, personally. Was a well attended GP, and had its moments despite the somewhat dodgy infield circuit.

If you piss off Tony’s sisters there is hell to pay.  I don’t blame them.  It cost the Hulman-George family a ton of money and grief for something that was easily solved. Now that Penske owns the joint and Malone wanting to tap some of those mid west racing dollars I could see it happening.  I'd still spend my money on Spa, Silverstone or Spain.  If any of those countries ever let us back in.  I don’t blame them either.

There's been recent chatter, they said they'd look at it again after Indy. Or talk about it, or whatever.

Only if they use a layout where a banked turn is part of the track. The layout currently used by IndyCar is horrible.

I was going to say no way Pirelli would let their tyres near a banked corner, but then there's Zandvoort.... not that we've raced there yet....

Please change the thread title.  It sounds like the 500 is coming back into the championship!

This would be great. I really liked the Indy F1 circuit - yes, a bit basic to drive, but it always provided great races and a wonderful atmosphere. I don't remember a bad one there to be honest (even 2005 was memorable).

I just hope they use the full final corner and not the chicaned version. I loved seeing F1 cars there, and it provided some great slipstreaming into T1.

I think it would be possible to do the full oval. With the SAFER barrier technology, and the safety levels of F1 chassis, I think it would be safe enough. It would definitely add a unique challenge.

They would have to add in special rules though, such as:

1. Extra practice sessions.

2. 1 special Indy engine, separate from the rest of the season's allocation.

3. Ban Grosjean from competing.

It 100% will never happen, though.

Stop this driver bashing: this negativity completely ruins the atmosphere for others, it's also rude, disrespectful and childish. I'm getting seriously fed up with this forum with daily bashing of drivers. You can also talk in a more positive way about the sport without launching personal attacks on driver or without judging other people or drivers.

If you feel that strongly, you may want to take your own advice in the F2 thread...

Assuming he made the comment tongue in cheek, then c'mon it was a little funny.... I too would rather be positive than negative about drivers, but even I had a chuckle when I read it..

Its not only the drivers who get offended. And I agree that negativity destroys enjoyment. Constant taking cheap shots at certain characters is playground standard.

I am sorry if offence was taken. But if Romain tried something like he did at Silverstone on an oval, it could have serious consequences. And given Barcelona is this weekend, his 2018 crash was on my mind, which again is just pack racing brain fade. So I don't feel I should apologise too much for an admittedly flippant comment, given that far worse for far less is given on here.

Edit: damn autocorrect

Both the drivers need to be fired.

F1 could prob drive the full oval. Would require refuelling to do any reasonable length of race though.

Yes, if they use that chicane then they might as well not bother with it IMO

It would be extremely challenging to sustain enough electrical energy.

I agree with the comments that it's a pretty dull track without the oval turn(s).

However, it was a travesty that the US GP at Indy ever left the F1 calendar.

Wouldn’t be much kinetic recovery. However I’m not sure that’s an issue. Cars would be fast enough as they are.
