A friend and I were ruminating to whether or not Sato is the only Indy500 winner to have also won at Castle Combe.
Hmmm, not sure...
Sato might be the only 500 winner to also win at Croft (in F3) but did he ever win at Castle Combe? Not in F3, but perhaps in F. Vauxhall? Then perhaps Dario Franchitti might have won at either track in his early F. Vauxhall period.
Then to confuse the issue a bit more, there are Jim Clark and Graham Hill, both f whom may have raced and won at Castle Combe.

You're right. Takusan didn't win there in F3. I mis-remembered. He must have come second both races as i remember them being Carlin 1-2's.
I am, nonetheless, intrigued if anyone has done the hallowed Combe-Indy double crown.

I read somewhere (possibly CC's own press office) that Graham Hill raced a Jaguar sports car very early in his career at Castle Combe, but I don't think he ever won. Mike Hawthorn won there.
During Jim Clark's very rapid ascent to Grand Prix racing I'm not sure he did much at Combe. The track seems to have dropped in and out of the UK scene over the decades.

This is a question for TNF, I reckon!
I shall raise it there.

Could Emerson Fittipaldi have raced at Combe in his early UK days?

And if you're looking for strange trivia, how many former Indy 500 team mates have won support races during a Grand Prix weekend (Arie Luyendyk at Zandvoort in 1973 and Scott Goodyear at Montreal in 1982 and 1986)?

Oh my, there's another possibility.

Bar the start, we didn't see much overtakes for position did we?

Whilst looking up possibilities for the Indy-Combe double I did find that Dan Wheldon won a Formula Ford race at Croft, so that isn't a unique combination.

I can confidently say that not even The Great Alonso has that most cherisheded crown.

No, it was pretty static. Looked like you needed a lot of bravery and a good car to make a pass stick on-track, or some assistance from the traffic. No wonder drivers waited for the pitstops to make their move.

Gateway 2 !!!!
Some interesting moves forward overall.

It's good to be the king, for one race at least. 1-2-4-10 on the picks, plus 25+15 bonus podium points for picking JoNew to place 1st and Pato 2nd. Might be the first time all season all of my drivers actually finished the race, or least went to the end without some major incident.
Also ended up second among all team owners in the entire IndyCar Fantasy Challenge world, five points back of first -- not sure if that makes up for placing 1805th in Race 1 which is more typical of racinggeek's season so far.

Might be seeing Arie Sr. tomorrow ( he's good friends with a good friend of mine and I've met him a couple times) and I want to ask him his opinion of Colton's reaction to VeeKay's driving this last weekend...

Could you ask him if he ever raced at Castle Combe? Alstublieft?

Was away for the weekend so only just caught up with the races. People saying the races were a little dull, and yes they weren't action packed, but personally I'll take any race where I don't know who is going to win (though ultimately we all know Dixon will win...)
The battle for the podium in Fantasy is intense; shame Lilynator has smashed us all! Losing 200 points for the Indy 500 took away my hopes of ultimate glory, but at least I got to top the overall table for 1 night (after Saturday Indy 500 qualifying but before the Fast 9 - I wish I had taken a screenshot now and framed it )

What is the significance of castle combe
It's not too far away from where I grew up, and I'm bloody fantastic.
Aside from that, it's a small, old, rural circuit that a lot of current and past F1 and IndyCar drivers raced on in their F3 years until NIMBY's complained about the noise. Pretty rudimentary layout, but nice nonetheless and definitely raises a chuckle when you compare it to the IMS and try to find drivers that have won at both.

Over in TNF, they have come up with a winner for the Indy-Castle Combe Double Crown. Not Sato, but Gil de Ferran who won in F. Ford in mid-West UK as well as in mid-West USA.
