Ok, winning a race is still a feat than can not be undeserved itself. But since all is relative, there are times when winner does not a job that deserves a praise but still finished first. Let's talk about it - an obvious example is Austria 2002.
There are others that spring in mind:
- Hill, Belgium `94. Schumacher drove one of his classic races yet was shoved to give trophy to Hill who was merely a statist.
- Hill, Australia `96. Villeneuve in his very first F1 race did amazing job yet with an oil leak he had to give up.
- Irvine, Germany `99. Mika Salo driving as a replacement for injured Schumacher suddenly found himself with a proper chance. Would have been his only one, unless Ferrari commanded a swap as usual.
- Schumacher, USA `05. Trulli was on pole, Raikkonen as true favorite but they did not had tires to race with.
- Kovalainen, Hungary `08. Massa did an amazing start, staying class of the field for 68 laps. An engine explosion denied his probably one of greatest victories. Heikki still had to be there, but even so Glock deserved it more than him.
- Alonso, Germany `10. Considering what happened with Massa year before, what Ferrari did to him was incredibly rude.
- Rosberg, Great Britain `13. Was Hamilton's race first, then seemed that Vettel had it in the bag until rare gearbox gremlins.
