What can I say... Underwhelming from Red Bull, leaving Max out alone for another year to battle both Mercedes.

Because all the evidence points to them not doing so?

Love how Otmar stated  Vettel has been never considered.

For a second I thought it will be funny if Stroll beats him but I doubt it. Good luck to him, I hope he drives well there with less pressure.

Such nonsense.

Vettel would want to annihilate young Lance. Otherwise the critics might have a point.

Just imagine if Vettel gets announced at Racing Point this weekend and it totally overshadows the Ferrari 1000th Grand Prix celebration?

Stroll has a tendeny to luck into good results. He nearly beat Massa in 2017 although he was completely dominated. And he is beating Perez now although the last couple of races he finished mostly ahead due to luck as well. Not saying that he has been just lucky or anything, but if that holds against Vettel, combined with possible paranoia about prefered treatment and considering that the RP is a low rake car and if Stroll continues to improve I wouldnt rule that out.

I doubt it as well though.

Glad Vettel has a drive for next year and I do think he's an upgrade on Perez (the crappy year he's having so far notwithstanding), but a part of me is a little disappointed that Red Bull didn't take the plunge for their second seat.

He want Ferrari to mess that one up all by themselves. ;)

As I said in the silly season thread, he’ll probably get his mojo back by being the lead driver at Aston Martin. Makes much more sense for him than going back to Red Bull to face Verstappen.

How many have driven for 3 sneaky teams on the trot?

Logical and sensible. Happy for Seb, could think of others we could do without on the grid.

I wouldn't really call the plodding elephant in the room that's Ferrari subterfuge sneaky.

Agreed. Think Red Bull missed a big opportunity here for a strong pairing and an experienced champion that can help make that car better. Max would have benefited imo.

Honestly thought this would happen from the moment Aston Martin were announced as the new identity of RP.....and I think it's a very good move for both parties.

Excited at the prospect of Seb getting his mojo back to be honest.

Will be interesting to see how it goes. Team must be pretty happy to have a genuine tier 1 driver for the first time since it became Force India I guess.

Vettel is not tier 1, at best he is tier 2.

When a driver returns to a team, it gives him some power over that team.  RB would be asking for trouble under those circumstances.  Anyway, Vettel is far too old for the RB brand.  It's much better for the 'show' watching Vettel race against the McLaren - the younger generation and he who wants to prove a point.  Should the RP drop further back, he'll be up against the Ferrari.  Next year could be fun.

Where does this announcement leave PĂ©rez? It would be a massive shame if he couldn't get a drive for 2021. There are at least 4-5 other drivers who are much less worthy of their seats.

Well, he could beat the Ferraris a few times, maybe that's worth it alone. Depends on how good the 2019 Mercedes will still be in his 3rd season.

no doubt Alfa and Haas will be after him. The whole package with him being a reliable driver and healthy sponsorship in a big market is too good to resist, but question is if he wants.

You're a bit early with calling him a genuine tier 1 driver. You should've at least waited until he's beating his new slow subordinate teammate.

Tier 1 - Hamilton, Verstappen
Tier 1.5 - Leclerc, Ricciardo
Tier 2 - Sainz, Vettel, Norris, Bottas

On current form I think that's fair enough. You could add Gasly to Tier 2 now perhaps.

Meh, i hoped he would have gone to red bull or paired with perez at Aston Martin. Its his last chance tho to recover his reputation somewhat.

Seems like a sidestep more than anything else, but of course his options were always going to be limited considering his reputation has justifiably plummeted over the last three seasons. Not sure where to place Aston Martin for the near future and the fact that he will be teamed up with a mediocre nonentity like Lance Stroll doesn't sound like the most exciting of partnerships, but time will tell.

This will go down as well as when Eddie Irvine joined Jaguar.

Which could have gone very well had Jaguar done the thing it was meant to do - namely, recruit Newey.

At least. Perez's reward for year after year of excellence in midfield? The inevitable boot as soon as Stroll Sr could justify it.

He'll probably be used as a stepping stone for little Stroll. Senior seems to be on a mission to prove that everyting is manufacturable, even F1-champions. For the right amount money that is of course.  :(

I honestly think this will be a great move for Vettel, getting out from the Ferrari situation I strongly suspect that he will make less mistakes than he has done at Ferrari, sure he isn't at his peak anymore but still could be a damn fine driver.

I think the team will benefit as he has a lot of experience from leading teams so could be very useful for Aston Martin, as some of the decisions this season have shown that despite the car being more competitive the team aren't used to running near the front.

Shot in the foot. Hiring a more expensive, underperforming, over the hill burnt out ex champion. A new "spin" in the Aston Martin fortunes for next year. Unfair on Sergio Perez, I think they will regret.
