Something we need to bear in mind when talking about Ferrari's undue power is that it consists of two elements which were introduced by non-Ferrari people before the ex-Ferrari guys appeared in the FIA and Liberty. These elements are:

  • The rules veto.
  • Disproportionate payments.

They were brought in, initially behind closed doors, by our old friends Mosley and Ecclestone. Why do they still feature? Because Liberty took over from Ecclestone and they were faced with making changes from a given starting point. It's disappointing but wholly understandable that they will change in a series of steps and not overnight. That's how business negotiations tend to be; lots of compromises. But they've started and we should be grateful for that.

To all those who seem to allege there's been a problem having Todt and Domenicali at the FIA, and Brawn and Tombazis at Liberty, please give us some specific examples of judgements the named people have made which are pro-Ferrari. Maybe there are some, but we need to mention them if we claim there's a bias.

He's a very likeable guy, and a decent record of achievements. What's not to love about this?

Anyone else underwhelmed by his appointment? Everywhere you read he's so great, great man, perfect for the job etc but I've never been impressed by him and I feel he has too close of a connection to Ferrari.

If he's not open enough to admit some of Schumacher's bad moments were unjustified by now I really can't see him taking his Ferrari cap off.

On beyond the grid even Montezemolo was more candid and down to earth. Donenicali always comes across big headed and fake to me.

All the TPs generally come across as big headed, even fake.  Probably part of the role they have to play.  And someone heading up F1 who has a direct background of managing within F1, as well as understanding the demands of car manufacturers away from the sport's bubble, doesn't seem like a bad idea as he'll have relevant experience.

There's an article here which describes him as pretty capable and includes this bit about his ties to Ferrari:

The word in Maranello is that Ferrari recently attempted to lure him back, this time as replacement for CEO Louis C Camilleri, reporting directly to chairman John Elkann. Domenicali gave the offer short shrift – if they didn’t value him last time, why would they genuinely do so again in times of crisis? This should silence those who falsely (and unfairly) jumped to the conclusion he remains a Tifoso to the core.

I'm aware of his career and the positive influence he had on racing categories. Don't think he's short of business nous. Just really don't get the love for him and don't like the Ferrari link. I don't know the guy personally, can only judge from interviews and his time in F1 but I'm glad he allegedly shafted Ferrari. Other team principles and even owners are more open than he is, even Binotto. Mind you it couldn't get worse than Abiteboul so at least there's that.

Other people who come across much better in my opinion: Stewart, Prost, Dennis, Brown, Horner, Vasseur... Even Tost!

I'm sure I'm probably just worried about nothing since it seems everyone else is happy he's in the position.

I hope they don't postpone the new regulations another year. In the past 15-20 years or so, regulation changes have ALWAYS been for the better of the sport.

He is the nice guy who gave up Ferrari test track, and allowed Red Bull to continue with engine blowing in 2011, so he can't be all bad.

He has some big connections to Renault these days, would be nice if he does something good for them. But I guess the team themselves need to close the gap before being favored.

I don't know the guy personally....

...yet you're prepared to slag off his personality on the basis of no quoted evidence whatever. He's a bloke doing a job. Let's see whether he does it effectively or not.
