That was one of the greatest races I've ever watched. Two drivers in their prime, in pretty equal machinery, on the limit for the whole race, driving cleanly, with only a little bit of extra speed in the drizzle from MS's side being the deciding factor.

Didn't realise what I'd see in this topic as I don't have these dates as sharp in my mind..
When I saw that photo. That car. That helmet. Thát race... damn, goosebumps.
Thanks!

I was crying like a child at the end of the race, of happiness. All of the frustration of the past (1982, 1983, 1990, 1997, 1999) went away.
It had taken 21 years...

I was very unhappy at the time, as fan of Mika Hakkinen, but now I feel joy when remembering the race. Back when F1 was F1.

Remember getting up early. We were on a short vacation in a cottage, but don't remember where. Felt very proud and a tad emotional to finally, after a couple of near-misses, see Ferrari take the WDC — although for me that was 'only' since about 1990-1991, when I started following F1.

This race was way, way before I started watching, but I took the time a few months ago to watch qualifying and the race. A truly great spectacle.

Crazy to think that it was the penultimate race of the season! We still have 7 races to go in 2020

A genuine gladiatorial duel. Will never forget qualifying. Mika and Michael were visibly more on it than anybody else, and it was magnificent.
Always tend to forget it wasn't actually the last race of the season.

The way to remember is that Schumacher had a good race.

Much as I love Murray Walker's commentary, his pro-Schumacher bias was always fairly sickening

It was amazing time, Michael and Mika were class or two above everyone else in qualifying and race. That qualifying was thrilling, lap after lap (12 laps in qualifying) they improved their times and were a lot faster than others (just like they were in 98 & 99). On the race they were over a minute in front of 3rd placed driver.

I think it just proves how far ahead they were of Coulthard and Barrichello. And it wasn't the only occassion that season (and for Mika in 98/99 with DC).Wow 20 years has gone past so fast.

It was a titanic battle between the two champions but you'd expect nothing less with a World Championship on the line.

I don’t think anyone has ever accused Murray Walker of pro-Schumacher bias before. Murray marvelled at all skilled drivers.

If anything, when James Hunt was slagging someone, Murray would always try to counter-balance.
Especially Riccardo Patrese.

Must just be me and pacificquay then! Not sure if it was the particular Suzuka race noted above or another, but damn, old Muzza could be quite the Schumacher cheerleader. Watched some of the various old Suzuka races on Sky F1 a while back and was surprised at how jarring it was even umpteen years later. Of course he was generally enthusiastic, but I always thought he was a bit of a Schumacher flag waver.

Oct 8th is always a happy day for me. It's my wedding anniversary. Anything else is irrelevant, particularly anything ferrariesque.

Largely because DC only experimented with left foot braking that year for the first time. It may even have been the year after. Left foot braking is essential through the S’es especially.I think it just proves how far ahead they were of Coulthard and Barrichello. And it wasn't the only occassion that season (and for Mika in 98/99 with DC).

By god I was not a fan of Michael back then, having just entered my teens and with his antics against Damon and Jacques still fresh. I rooted hard for Eddie Irvine to be Ferrari's first champion in 20 years in 1999, but I really didn't want Michael doing it in 2000. However, that weekend, I did understand the significance of the event. It was actually the first Ferrari driver's championship in my lifetime, as Jody was well before I was born.
Unfortunately, the next few years were utterly boring in terms of a title fight, except for 2003 of course, which was a classic. But who expected the hard fought and exciting 2000 season to give way to the Schumacher dominance of the next few years?
Of course, having grown up and watched Michael race on his comeback, I warmed to him in way I never thought I would back in the late 90s or early 2000s.
PS. That was also the last attractive Ferrari F1 car in a long, long time. The dopey looking drooped nose designs from 2001 onwards were so ugly.
