Not sure how much this will have to do with F1 if any. But could get a bit interesting long term.

Will be interesting to see if this somehow will effect the future of Wolff for example. Will he really stay with Mercedes or transfer to Aston Martin

It's the car company though, not the F1 team.

I won't believe this until Eddie Jordan confirms it.

They are sharing a windtunnel, engines, assorted parts, and personell. They have silently become sister teams.

I don't think the tie-up means Aston Martin are not allowed to win races should the mood suit them.

Aston Martin has a long history of boom and bankruptcy.  Billions have been lost over the years.  I can't understand Mercedes throwing money at a rival that sacked 500 from it's small workforce only 4 months ago.  The shares must have been at a bargain price.

From what I read, Mercedes didn't buy the shares. They were offered them. Subtle, but different. In return, Aston Martin have access to Mercedes technology (electric powertrains most importantly as Aston simply cannot bare the cost of that). That's what Mercedes are trading. But Aston Martin is a tiny manufacturer in comparison to Mercedes.

Aston Martin will gain access to the full suite of Mercedes powertrain technology thanks to an upgraded strategic agreement, confirmed today by executive chairman, Lawrence Stroll. The British company, now headed by former AMG boss Tobias Moers, will give Mercedes up to 20 per cent equity stake in exchange, as well as appointing one of its non-executive directors to the board.

Does this leave Morgan as the last "real" British car manufacturer (not counting Ariel and the like)?

Frankly, I don't like it from a closer tie-in standpoint between the two F1 teams, even if that's not a primary goal.

Why is Mclaren not a british car manufacturer?  While they may be funded by Bahrainis they are actually using British engineering.

I think you forget Noble too.

Fair enough.  I'm not British, but I have a lot of respect for England's engineering and manufacturing heritage, and I hate to see it eroded bit by bit.

More likely Russell to replace Lance

No room for nepotism if they really mean business

If I had  any money I would just follow Wolff's money. Would be rich man, but when you have nothing it's hard to make something from yourself. Just remember kids, rich only get richer.

Now someone will call me out on hindsight, but remember I talked months ago about there is reason why is Mercedes in complete silence and Wolff took hard stance defending Racing Point's car. As good amount of F1 workforce from Mercedes moved to Racing Point with Wolff investing also.  There was reason for that. Now it's out here.

Nothing to do with the F1 teams.

Merc is getting shares for giving AM access to some of their tech.

More like Russel unless Herr Stroll buys the Mercedes F1 team

now I'm sad that the Fiat Chrystler-Renault Merger failed. I would have loved to see the mental gymnastics on that one.

Mercedes have become the star of F1. If FIA slackken the rules to allow supplying to more than 4 teams by an engine manufacturer, other teams will be queuing for Toto's attentions, won't surprise me a bit if Ferrari joins the queue.

Will there be a Mercedes team at end of 2021?
AMC racing with Aston Martin
All the correct pieces being put into position to make a seamless move!

Yes

Merc have already said they will be keeping the team and see it becoming a profitable jewel in the company portfolio with all the f1 rule changes

Well if you believe Ola Källenius recent comments there should be no reason to doubt Mercedes long term future as a works team.

But alot can happen over the next 12 months. Obviously theres alot going on behind the scenes. Theres definitely something more behind the delay of Hamilton and Wolff apprant renewals in my opinion whatever it is.

At this moment wouldn't shock me if Mercedes stayed as they are long term but also wouldn't shock me ethier if the Mercedes team became a Aston Martin AMG works team at some point in 1-3 years.

No car Manufacturers apart from Ferrari in my view is fully committed to F1 during the new concorde agreement period. With Covid and the automotive struggles it's only natural the project will get reviewed yearly. But Honda recent withdrawal after 21 should be a wake up call anything can happen

Morgan are Italian owned as of last year.

The biggest British owned motor vehicle company used to be London Cab company, but now it is, I believe, JCB. Yep. JCB.

Should this mean that soon we will see a green New Merc E-type coupe with AM badge on that typically curved bonnet that replaced the Merc hood??

Not so sure, the Autosport article goes on to say

"Today's announcement, focused on Aston's road car business, revealed an increased level of technical co-operation between the two marques which will also have implications for their respective Formula 1 programmes that already co-exist with as much co-operation as the FIA rules allow."

I read that as a B-team signed and delivered

Not sure. Maybe C-team is a better word.

Ferrari B-team = Sauber-Alfa

Ferrari C-team = Haas

Sadly, too late as this ship sailed a long time ago.  We have sold off all of the family jewels, nearly all of the furniture and mortgaged the house up to the hilt.

The biggest British owned motor vehicle company used to be London Cab company, but now it is, I believe, JCB. Yep. JCB.

And JCB is owned by Sir Anthony Bamford.  Who is one of the 'Stroll consortium' that now own AM and RP.  The plot thickens.... ;)
