Doug, probably the closest is www.gpx.it/forum in their Historic Formula 1 section.

How about this:

French, yes, but some threads seem to be virtually hijacked by Italians, especially ones about Italian topics like Targa Florio.

When it comes to hillclimbs and hillclimb cars, there are some very active Italian Facebook groups with a number of competent and helpful members. The most serious to my opinion is:

Yes, Gpx is or used to be the main Italian forum focusing only on the history of motorsports. It's not very active these days, though, but it is alive. Worth pointing out is also https://forum.p300.i...one-motorsport/ where historical subjects are often discussed and which in the http://forum.p300.it/cat/40-scuderie-del-passato/ has an enormous list of side-profile colour sketches of all GP racing cars from 1950 onwards (drawn from scratch, not copies of the Pierre Ménard ones).
However, as stated by the Mountaineer, most people seemed to have moved to Facebook with myriad groups being created about the most diverse topics, often with old journalists from Autosprint and Rombo sharing reminiscences. There's the group of Mauro Forghieri, the group of Alfa in 77-85 F1, hillclimbing, Alfa in DTM, etc etc. Of course with such quantity and the vacuity inherent to most Facebook discussions, there's also 'the few good, the often bad, and the numerous ugly'.

Hmmm - well I most definitely do not 'do' Facebook, nor Twitter, nor Linked-In, nor any of those evil-empire things...nor do I know anything about them...nor do I want to learn anything about them. I'm quite content here and thanks for your assistance... Perhaps - if needs must - I should get someone else to post on those Fora on my behalf.

No, Doug, there is not such a thing in Italy. The existing is junk. Let's not talk about facebook et similars. The Italian Society of Motoring History (AISA), of which I am a member, tried during lock down to start a Forum in our site to keep our members busy, but with minuscule or no response....You can visit our site at www.aisastoryauto.it. We publish interesting booklets. I'll loan to you my credentials to get into the forum. Maybe you'll be able to revive it. Please write to me at a.silva@aisastoryauto.it.

Doug, like you I'm not into signing up to the evil empire things either.... but!
In a completely lurking sense (that plenty do here at TNF) certain public Facebook groups (as opposed to 'private' groups that require asking to join/see) are another research tool worthy of keeping an eye on to see what pops up. In the public sense it can be done without signing up to the empire and you see some interesting stuff that isn't turning up on other parts of the net first time around.
For instance, just this week, Paul Cummins, son of the late Ian Cummins (who you've previously mentioned knowing over the bent Ferrari test instance) posted Alta engine related photos
https://www.facebook...868623260548416
it has an interesting stream of info that now follows. I dare say that it has probably been 'shared' back to the private Alta FB page (where you aren't able to see).
And also this week the ex Whitehead Cooper Jaguar colour photos appeared on FB. Mark Bisset has posted them into the TNF Strathpine thread (if you haven't yet looked)
It's just a pity TNF can't pick up some of those FB users/posters with the material they can access. Because there's a lot of TNF members gone to FB users out there.
So the evil system can be 'used' to our own benefit.

Fully appreciated - but, for me, regarding proper FB involvement, absolutely no way Jose. I am simply very happy that others might be kind enough to tell me about whatever might be there...
