This discussion is pretty useless to be honest. It is clear he is great and one of the best. What do you guys actually get from bickering in here?

Yep. What he said is something every driver says if someone is dull enough to ask.

Hamilton was not faster than Button from 2010 to 2012, in fact, they were pretty similar.

Now Lewis has 7 WDC while Jenson has only 1.

The difference? a dominant car.

Back to those years Lewis was a top driver, but he wasn't considered the best of the grid. He was as good as any other WDC back then: Vettel, Alonso, Button, Kimi, etc.

Stats are not everything. Hamilton is not 7 times better than Button  :drunk:

So the argument has morphed from “Hamilton will win with equal cars” to “Hamilton wouldn’t win in a Red Bull”. And as usual, the anti-Hamilton brigade push their usual agenda lol.

Why is it so surprising that the best sportspeople win in an equal environment? You think Serena Williams needed a superior racket to dominate tennis? Or did Team Sky need superior bikes to dominate the TDF? Did Bolt need special shoes to dominate sprinting for three olympics?

Senna wanted to drive for Williams... for free.    Why is that?  Seriously why?     Stop will the anti-Hamilton brigade agenda BS and make more level headed posts please.

That's a nice alternative universe you're living in.

Eh? Hamilton was SIGNIFICANTLY faster than Button. He dominated him on Saturdays and when both cars finished, he was usually ahead by a good margin. Lewis had shocking reliability in McLaren (remember the “car breaker” claim?) and also made lots of errors in 2011.
On pure pace he was miles ahead.

What's comical about my post?  Senna proposed to drive for free for Frank because he had the best car in f1.

I guesss I was in the same universer as him. Lewis was faster in quali but Button has similar or even slighlty better race craft or atleast more consistent.

Like Senna/Prost without the fireworks.

Did he?  No win bonuses ?  Was that before or after this?

Senna turned down contract to drive for Williams in 1992 ‘out of loyalty to Honda’

Lewis and Schumacher have won the most number of wet weather races in F1. Senna with 14 ranks 3rd, while JB with 7 ranks 4th. Vettel and Alonso have 4 and Max has 2.. so far.

Pretty sure Vettel has 3 wet weather wins ( Monza 2008, Shanghai 2009, Sepang 2013 ). And Max 1 ( Hockenheim 2019 )

Damon Hill has 3, should have been 4 (Monaco 1996). Just reinforcing how underrated he actually is. Comfortably amongst that company.

9 pole positions to 1. No hyperbole in that statement.

After I believe.  Senna made his famous offer at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 1992

He lost in 2007, but let's not forget he beat a more experienced double world champ in the same car

Not to mention  2017 and 2018, thrashing an evenly matched Ferrari

What a pointless discussion

Please... Alonso would have beat Hamilton that year if the team didn't stop supporting him. Ron Dennis made one of the biggest driver management messups in F1 history... Sign a 2x WDC to end up giving him number 2 status. Lol

Even my granny would've done it better than Ron Dennis

If you want to view it that way, it's even more amazing how Button scored more points at the end of the day.

It's both selective and misleading IMO. Overall Hamilton was by no means miles ahead of Button in the stuff that counts. Neither was any of the two consistently excellent during that period. Buttons "balance problems" and Hamiltons frequent encounters with Massa spring to mind.

The statement you questioned firmly had the words "pure pace" in there. So that's what we're discussing. Not a fantasy points total taken across 3 seasons.

If 9 poles to 1 doesn't satisfy you, try 39-19 qualifying head to head. In favour of Hamilton.

So "pure pace" is a factual term now, but actual points scored are fantasy?

Besides you do realize that there is another thing going on weekends, usually the day after qualifiying?
