Well, in that case its the Piquet-Kvyat-Verstappen mess isn't it? Nelson Piquet, Nelson Piquet Jr, Danil Kvyat (has a daughter with Piquet's daughter), Max Verstappen (reportedly dating said daughter of Piquet) and Jos Verstappen (father of Max).

 

Hang on. Does Kvyat have a child with the same woman that Verstappen dates? So, Verstappen replaced Kvyat in RB, and now he's aiming to "replace" him as a dad as well?

I get they are hardly ever in the points but this call just seems odd.. take Kubica over this 10 out of 10 times.  He has practice on the Ferrari PU, raced safely last year...

Max is going out with the mother of Kvyat's child? They only had a child not far long ago? Around German gp last year? Jerry Springer F1 episode in the making lol.

IF this is true I really feel for Kvyat though. Don't know all the facts but from outside it does look like **** thing to do, Max! (He must have taken lesson from uncle Michael or Ginger spice and His Boss for that matter).

Unless the concorde agreement has changed, Haas will have to turn up with 2 cars. If not, the resulting breach of agreement might be more expensive than building a 2nd car. 

 

Force majeure would come into effect, or at least the circumstances taken into account. They would not be fined if they did not field 2 cars. Just as Williams were not, the race after Senna's death.

Gary never qualified (thankfully those who know why will know why), bit like Jo Winkelhock. However if we ARE getting into spouses David Brabham is married to Mike Thackwell's sister. So with Sir Jack that's another almost 4. 

The Kvyat - Piquet - Verstappen thing can get even more complex. Kelly Piquet's mother was with Elio de Angelis before Nelson and sister Julia once dated Filipe Nasr and is now with Mexico NASCAR driver Daniel Suarez. I think we should probably just stick to bloodlines lol.

I'm surprised as well that they'll even have a complete second car for the race since it's been a long time since the teams had a T car available.  Obviously there is NOTHING left to salvage from Romain's car. 

 

I hope Romain is there to watch, even if he can't race.  For some reason I like the guy and wouldn't mind if he comes stateside and runs Indycar.

They can't have a T-car/Reserve-car. However, they bring parts to assemble car 3 anyway. What if the get a cracked tub in FP1? Then they need a new one. I still haven't fully understood the reasons why they cannot have a spare car for economic reasons, when they bring enough parts anyway. I understand why they may have issues with it in regards to engine allocations etc. these days, but not economically.

It's probably easier/cheaper to ship the parts than the complete car. Cars are stripped apart between races anyway, it will just be a different tub this time.

On certain race days they'd have the T-car with a different set up, i.e. wet set up when the conditions were uncertain before the race. Then Michael Schumacher would decide which car he wanted at the last possible minute based on how he thought the weather would turn out. Often Ferrari would have two T-cars to hand, sometimes they'd even let Barichello drive one when his car failed. This was a definite advantage, even the other big teams at the time didn't do this.

Really? Calling up a driver who knows the team, has driven the car and is their contracted reserve driver is odd?

 

Yet taking a driver who's contracted to another team via his own personal sponsor, has never driven the car, doesn't know the team and would require modifications made to the car to facilitate his disabilities is the common sense choice?

Best of luck to Pietro....I've been following his career and I agree there are better drivers out there, he's sufficiently qualified. All that is expected of him really will be to have a clean weekend, qualify and finish the race on the same lap a KMag. The car almost certainly won't be capable of scoring points unless there's a big crash wiping out the front runners or midfield.

What's odd about using your contracted reserve driver when you suddenly find that you need a reserve driver? Isn't that why they have a reserve driver?

After 1996 he still proved he's competitive in Formula Masters 2005 (2nd place)/2006. His final race so far was the 2014 WEC round at Interlagos.
