Berdie Martin (Burdette Martin Jnr) died on Saturday night last.

Berdie was an Elva racer (see him upside down at Sebring in the period photos) and moved into race organisation with  SCCA, to Can- Am, where he was race director in the glory days, to ACCUS, where he ran that organisation and became the face of US Motorsport on the world stage as he worked with the FIA both as race director and F1 steward.

Always with his late wife Anne at his side.

Wasn't he the director of the infamous 1986 Australian Grand Prix? Was he the one who thought of stopping the race if Mansell's Williams rested on the track once his tyre blew out?
