Alonso will be running in the R25 in Abu Dhabi this weekend. Car set up in a special garage for him it seems.

https://twitter.com/...1543749632?s=21

And three runs too, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to the schedule on F1 website

https://www.formula1.../Timetable.html

Tsk tsk, old man Alonso must be so desperate he is running such an old car and FIA giving him a special pass again to produce so much noise, not once, not twice but three times

(I’m so looking forward to it , hope they show it on TV )

V10 makes even Abu Dhabi exciting. Truly magical.

I was shocked at the feeling of joy I felt in my heart as I watched Fernando drive his Renault R25 around Abu Dhabi this morning. The sound was spectacular and the car looked so beautiful, fast, and composed through the corners.

In that moment it became totally clear to me just how much F1 has lost its way!

Alonso looked pretty tidy as well!

Would have loved to see a comparative lap time.

Wow!! That video is great, he is actually thrashing it too.

Man those sounds! Netflix wouldn't have to dub all those lame engine noises back in the 00s.

Ruined by the too early Doppler effect as the car passes the microphones before it passes the cameras.

Those 2005 cars are true beauties compared to the current bus sized cars.

God that is incredible. That sound is worth the price of admission alone. Will never, ever forget that feeling of those V10's rattling my brain while standing trackside.

How far F1 has strayed, it's so sad.

Liberty should do an exhibition race with those 2005 cars in the middle of the calendar.

No, whole season with 2005 cars and then a single exhibition race with current cars. I think that one race would show quite horrible contrast.

I forgot how they had changed so much in that time, I mean the below are 1:18 models but modern cars really are land barges.

At this point, F1 should be reflecting on what wrong turns and questionable decisions, have led to the current car and engine regs.

I really can't bring myself to like the grooved tyred, narrow cars of that era. Stuff up to and including 1997? Great. Those mid-00s cars just look so awkward. They did sound good though.

Edit: Though having watched that video, there's something rather pleasing about the R25 running on slick tyres. Almost like it was meant to be run like that. Shame the narrow track makes it look like an F2 car.

I didn't particularly like those cars at the time, but compared to now... at least they look in proportion.

And the sound - goes without saying really.

Because it's not a hyper-stabilized camera, and a different FOV as well :)

Fernando used this very car in the final six races of the 2005 championship. It scored a podium every time, including a win at the championship decider in China - in fact, the map of the Chinese track is still inside the car!

Refuelling vs non-refuelling, and a narrow track car.  The skinny, groove shod cars of that era never looked quite right in terms of proportion.

Biggest difference is how nimble they are compared to present day cars.  The current era chassis needs to shed some weight.

It doesn't look like he was pushing very hard, he was coasting just before braking, lifting a bit in some parts, etc.

Ahh the "Shanghai special" when they gave him a fresh engine with full attack mode unleashed and he could finally compete with the McLaren on pace.

Fantastic send off for the V10 era.

WHAT

Alonso set the car engine on fire after winning the last race of the season, by revving it high in the parc ferme :rotfl:

In theory its the same car, but maybe with the engine repaired then

Yes, they don't write the rules, but this is what liberty should try to recreate.

The wings are different too.

The nose cone of Fernando was with red mark on the front and the front wing is different (no double winglet). Rear wing is also different.
Canal+ said that the race seat is one from Franck Montagny (he was test driver).

Anyway, it’s a real pleasure to see this car on track again 👍

Agree. Was not a fan of the team back in the day, but I found this lap incredible to watch. The speed and sudden change of direction, and the noise. It's the F1 I used to love.

the car looks so nimble

also it's impossible not to be affected by that noise,

also amazing speed given the conditions, I don't know if the track has changed much, but checking times from 2009 quickly on wikipedia... this lap was kind of close to that.

The size comparison just reminds you why Monaco has become increasingly unbareable on Sunday. It's never been the best race track but these wide body land yachts have zero chance to race in Monaco.

Would be a cool car if it wasnt fisher-price looking paintwork.

Anyway good to have the old man back, ego and all.
