The winners of the 1905 Gordon Bennett Cup Race, Léon Théry and his mechanic Mueller in their 95hp Richard-Brasier. The car carried the number one as Théry had won the previous year's race.

Pedro Rodríguez, driving a BRM P153, on his way to winning the 1970 Belgian GP. It would be the last time F1 cars raced at the old Spa and of course, the last win of a Mexican driver in F1 until Sakhir 2020.
Behind Rodríguez, the red March of Chris Amon, who finished second.

Here's 2013 BTCC Champion Andrew Jordan's '14 #1 Pirtek Racing Honda Civic. The season started strong with two consecutive wins at the Brands Hatch opener but eventually ended in 5th to eventual '14 Champ Colin Turkington.
Jordan's still my fav BTCC driver but for sponsorship issues, he couldn't compete in the 2020 season despite finishing a strong 2nd in 2019. Please come back Andrew, it ain't the same with you mate.

One more for the road. Jo Siffert (in the #1 917K) and Mario Andretti (in the 512S) fight it out at the 1970 Daytona 24hrs. Siffert, who shared the car with Brian Redman finished 2nd, Andretti, together with Arturo Merzario and Jacky Ickx, 3rd. The sister 917K of Pedro Rodriquez, Leo Kinnunen and Brian Redman (who drove both Porsches) would win the race.

Danny Sullivan's Penske at the 1989 Indy 500 in the fantastic Miller High Life colours. Sullivan's race didn't last too long, succumbing to clutch issues after 41 laps.
...though on a related note I was obviously influenced by classic racing liveries early! Here's BabyFrood ca. 1995/6:
My father would have been working for Penske in '89 so I'd guess that's where the sticker came from!

Chris Amon in the Ferrari 312 at the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix, a race where his team mate Michael Parkes crashed, ending his short F1 career. As a result, Amon's other team mate Ludovico Scarfiotti chose not to enter any more events for Ferrari. Thus, two races after their lead driver Lorenzo Bandini had crashed fatally at Monaco, Chris Amon, who was Ferrari's fourth driver at the beginning of 1967, was left as their sole driver for much of the season.

The amazing thing about this picture, I am almost quite sure, it was taken a day before Niki had his accident at the Ring. Look how he leaves the ground (at Flughaven?) And this was way AFTER he had received tremendous flak for saying that the Ring was too dangerous for F1. Read this, in hindsight, chilling interview with Dieter Stappert, a week before the accident (I translate it into English, for posterity's sake, because I believe the German autobiography I have was not published in full in the English speaking countries):
Lauda: 'The weekend (at the Ring, Nemo) really bothers me, the most important thing is to survive, that is how I feel about it, I don't know what the others think, but that is what I think.'
Dieter Stappert: 'Do you limit yourself for the ring, are you not going full out, or is it like: if I am here, I will drive full-out, just because I have to?'
Lauda: 'That is just the thing, one has to, otherwise you won't get anywhere, I know now that I have to but don't want to... When the public greets me with boos and whistles, I don't give a rat's ass, quit the contrary, let the idiots whistle, and when nothing happens during the weekend, that is a miracle, I tell you, we can then all say on Monday: Thank you, God! All of us, anyone who drives here or knows about driving here, understands that.
'Everything what people say, means nothing. Only what happens, that matters, the last accident, that is the godawful thing (...) Just imagine, Fittipaldi burns to death (Italics for emphasis by Nemo), you know what I am saying? And that is the madness, the poor devil dies and nobody cares. When you don't write about it, nobody will know about it, and that is the murder, after the accident suddenly there happens to be a reason for changes after all, then everything has to change. Then I say: thank you very much, I've had enough.'

Flugplatz But I’m pretty sure that’s Pflanzgarten (no curbs at Flugplatz).

Question to B2,
Wasn't this the repainted car after qualifying, perhaps taken on/around Carb Day?
Danny had crashed that year and there was even talk about Geoff Brabham qualifying and possibly driving the car.
I still recall Geoff driving a all white painted backup car and as far as my memory goes, Danny eventually qualified the (still primarily white) car himself in the second weekend of qualifcations with a cast on his arm and a Q picture with the entire team being made with the crew members also wearing an arm cast.
Do you remember/know anything on this?

Sixteen years ago, Fernando Alonso scored a 1-2 with Giancharlo Fisichella as his wingman. So that is a kind of 1 and 1 day before, right?
And for my very good friends I took the R25 for a spin around the track, virtually.

The #1 Alfa Romeo 155 Alfa Corse of '93 Champion Nicola Larini during the '94 DTM season. Alfas are pure beauty, honestly.

Back in 2007, my current main dude in all of Racing, Martin Truex Jr, fresh off of 2 consecutive Busch Series Championships driving for his good friend Dale Jr's own team, moved to Cup, again with Junior's team and won his first race at the Monster Mile with the #1 Chevy DEI.
I look back at that race with much warmth, even though I don't partake in Nostalgia ( this thread not included ) and remember how long the wait ( and weight ) was to his second win, 6 years down the line. Still #1 in my book across the boards now.

And for my last post here this edition, one of the all-time great riders - Eddie 'Steady' Lawson - seen here in the #1 Marlboro Agostini Yamaha YZR500 in 1985 after his 1 of 4 Championship the year prior.
May y'all into this year as fast and smooth as Steady Eddie himself. Cheers.

Number 0 may be best-known for Damon Hill, but it's also good to remember it's important part of rallying as a final car before first competitor goes through the stage.

A Daytona at Daytona.
The Ferrari 365 GTB4 of Milt Minter, Claude Ballot-Léna and Giancarlo Gagliardi at the 1975 edition of the 24 hours of Daytona.
They didn't honour the car's unofficial name, taking a poor 28th place.
This is my last post in this thread, thank you very much to all contributors.

It’s been a nice journey through motorsports history again people, thanks to all for making this thread great again. I’ll sign off with the Porsche 962C of the three Andretti’s (Mario, Michael and Jeff) at the 1991 Daytona 24 hrs. See you all later elsewhere, enjoy the season

Thanks to all the people who posted in this thread over the break.
It has been a most enjoyable way to pass the time, particularly those who provided the background information to the pictures they posted.
It has been much appreciated.
Thanks again.
