Wow, this is interesting, Looks like the forefront of motor racing is now moved more towards these areas with much more difficulties and technical freedom.

Looking forward to see what it does, and make me a bit worried about drivars safety in case of the batteries igniting.

Audi have signed Mattias Ekström, Stéphane Peterhansel en Carlos Sainz Sr. to drive their 3 car Dakar-line-up.

I actually thought Sainz would retire from driving the Dakar but apparently he's not. He's 59 right now, Peterhansel if 55 and Ekström the young one at 43.

So they've taken over the complete X-Raid Mini line-up (Ekström recently also drove a rally raid for that team in Kazakhstan), not very original just to take over the line-up of another team.

Being 59 ain’t old, chap.  When you’re in your 20s and even early 30s it might seem that way but it’s not old.  Experience, endurance and strategy (and some luck) win rally raids and desert endurance.  Knowing when not to go balls out is more important than going balls out during a stage.  It’s not uncommon for desert endurance champs to be in their 50s or even 60s.
