Hello everyone,

I am new here and i am looking for Laptime Data. Like Argentinia 55, most of 61-71 and evrything from 82 onwards evry single race Lap.

Anyone knowing is something like that existed before 61 (when Autocourse started to print Laptimes to 71) ?

Then there is that big gap between 72 and 81 (i only find on Forix 74 Italy, 79 Spain and 7 races of 81).

It would be great if my Collection could cover evrything from the Start in 1950 ;)

Well, for starters there's this here:

https://forums.autos...ian-grand-prix/

I realize I didn't post the full Gapchart in that thread, will try to find it when I get home later today. :)

Yeah a full Gapchart is something i was looking for :)

I found this post earlier when looking threw this Forum, but apart from Argentinia 1955 and some Laptimes from Germany 1957 it seems that hard to find anything.

Problem is, Gapchart was a programme I wrote in Basic, and it doesn't run anymore on modern computers. I can't be motivated to learn another programming language (I'm over 50! :D), so I only have a very limited number of races that I did back in the day, and that's it.

Do you have any from the 1950's or are you just looking for Argentina 55 ?

I sadly have nothing from the 50s apart from some time gaps mentioned from the motorsportmagazine.

My Laptime data collection at the moment is from 66 to 71 and from 82 to 2020.

I knew that Autocourse has most of the Lap times from 61 to 65, that will be my next project to look there.

So i am asking for the 50s and from 72 to 81 (sorry if my Starting Question wasn`t that clear) if anyone has something to share and can help where to find.

Sounds interesting enough. Still looking forward to it :)

Is the Gapchart program that complicated? I suck at programming but maybe it could be updatet...

September 19 you mentioned that you are working at the individual laps from 72 to 81...any news or progress?

The early Autocourse mags from 1951 had complete lap charts, most with times until around 1956 when they became more sporadic although they produced some in 1959 and 1960 editions. I have several scans from some of these that I did a few years ago for some reason and I am happy to scan others that I can find for these early years if it helps. Not the easiest mag to scan but I am am happy to do so whilst in lockdown and awaiting my vaccine ! :)

Probably best if you send me a PM (Personal Message) with your email address and I will send you a sample to see if it is what you are after.

Chris

Some time ago I found some scans of Autocourse on the net.

If you go to:

https://edition.page...9f-dfda663264a1

that will lead you to the '61 edition. Later editions are also available. The pages with lap times are available, though on my laptop, they look very hard to decipher.

Always worth having a try there.

I already use the Pagesuite site and contacted the owner from Autocourse to send me Scans in better quality, what he already did :)

The Scans of the Lapcharts are very hard to read or sometimes impossible on the Browser.

But Autocourse stopped printing Laptimes in 1972...

I don't know if I said I was "working" on '72/'81, but I would really love to find the data, too.

As for the Gapchart program, I was still developing and updating it myself, but as I said, it was written in Basic and modern computers no longer have a DOS command level, so it's no longer accesible. I have since tried to emulate a few functions in an Excel sheet, but it's slow going as I don't have that much time and energy to spend on the project at the mo. Yet another project for another rainy day...

I'll send you a private message, so we can exchange email addresses for file transfer. :)

A bit of drift to say I'm in a similar position. At work I learned enough FORTRAN to write programs (as we called 'em) to deal with various aspects of aircraft performance, but at home I used BASIC, using interpretor for developing and compiler for active use. All our motor race handicapping was computerised that way and when I tried to retire I had to continue as my successor's IT man using an old early laptop with DOS driving a postscript printer.

That was no longer possible with later printers, as well as the lack of a DOS window in Windows XP or later, so it's back to the pre-1985 paper/pencil/pocket calculator!

Even in Windows 10, you can still use the program "cmd" which opens a command window, where you can still use your DOS commands. I still use it regularly. I am not sure if it really supports everything, but it can be quite useful.

Well, I didn't know that! Anyway, I stopped programming altogether fifteen years or so ago, and I very much doubt I'll be able to pick up where I left off. So, basically it's like starting all over again, which as I said is not really an option. :(

Hello DDMARC,

yes the Times from Italy 1974 and the races from 1981 i found on Forix and converted them to Excel.

http://forix.autospo...05&c=24&b=1&s=0

I extracted the Data from Classification@lap and have Spain 79 now also in my collection. You can DM me and i could send them to you.

To get 79 Argentinia would be one step closer :)

Oh than i understand it wrong. Then its hard to find much from 72/81. I found some Laptimes at the Autosprint Archive, but only to a few races.

I am not a Programmer myself (But working in the IT) but on Windows 10 with some Programms you still should be able to use Basic on a modern computer.

I have my whole Data in Excel Files and analyzed them Race by Race, Driver by Driver, but didnt use any special Program.

Does that include lap times for the free practice sessions, i.e. the morning sessions Friday through Sunday? If so, I'd love to have them!

I know it has all the lap times for the race, I’m not sure if it includes the practice sessions as well. I will dig it out again and have a look.

The magazine Grand Prix International published 1979 to 1986 did usually publish the Free Practice sessions. The 1983 British GP times were published.

Expensive to try and obtain all copies (I believe 105 issues)

OK, what I have is the complete original Olivetti-Longines printout of all the lap times during the race. It does not include any lap times from practice sessions.

Hi Brocki95.

I have laptimes from the 1977 Spanish and Monaco GP's from Autosprint.

For the Monaco GP only the times for Scheckter and Lauda were given.

For the Spanish GP the laptimes for 20 of the 24 starters were given.

I have put the times into an Excel spreadsheet, checked, double-checked , triple-checked then checked again. Of the 11 race times from FORIX only the times for 2 drivers add up correctly.

A link to the spreadsheet is below.

Hello all,

after a long while i wanted to say something about my progress.

From the 197 Races between Britain 1950 to the End of 1971 I gathered all Laptime Data from 150 Races.

The missing Races are from 1950 (all 6), 1954 Argentinia, 1956 (4/7 missing), 1957 (5/7 missing), 1958(all 10), 1959 (7/8 missing), 1960 Italia, 1962 (all 9), 1963 Mexico, 1969 Italia and USA, 1970 Spain

For 1959 and 1962 I think I can collect the remaining laptime data from Autocourse. But for the rest...

I scanned threw the whole Autosprint Archive for the 70s. I found here and there some Laptime Data, but sadly often nothing. So the time period 72-81 remains difficult to find something.

I am helpful for any tipp where to find more^^

Big thumps up to Chris and Marc for your help :)

I would be interested in the ones you have from 1951 to 1960.

I'm too late to the party as usual, but there are ways to fully emulate DOS under modern Windows environment allowing one to run old programs, see this:

https://www.dosbox.com/

It's free and fairly simple to use. I'm into retrogaming and use this to run all sorts of DOS games from 1980s and 90s.

Thanks for all the advice regarding Basic programming! I'm not sure I have the will to wade into these muddy waters again, but now at least I know where to look if I do!

Have you seen the French www.StatsF1.com site?
They have best laps for every driver for every GP from 1959 onwards.
No idea how accurate it is
