It was a pretty hard hit that Mazepin took when he went in to the back or Russel's car. To me it also seemed like Nikita was an inocent victim of the situation. When you start at the back of the field you always have a higher risk of an incident that you can't see (well) happening ahead of you early in the race and in particular at or right after the start.

Biggest transfer question in 2022 for Haas (eying '23) is wether Mazepin will stay. I think that Mick is bound to stay for a 3rd year, because I don't see where he could otherwise move to (Sauber has Pourchaire). Williams could be an option for Mick if they don't extend Latifi (the Canadian could go to IndyCar in '23) but then I think they may be interested in Zhou if Pourchaire gets the nod to move to F1.
Zhou, Latifi and maybe even Schwartzman could be options to replace Mazepin unless Haas wants an experienced driver (who is quicker as the likes of Mazepin or Latifi) back again, they used to hire experienced drivers (Grosjean, Magnussen). Mick will off course be in his 3rd year in '23.

…. Haas official year-end photo and they’ve crudely photoshopped Gene onto a copy/paste version of Gunther
Gene wasn’t a listed part so they could outsource him…
The Photoshop is worse than him not being there.

One of the best races of the year from Mick
Good start, splitting the two Williams since lap 1, than went for an early stop.
He then went for a super long stint with hards, overcutting Latifi & holding him off fiercely till the end despite a much more used compound.
Nice way to close off a positive debut season with the worst car in the grid
Steiner:
"Mick did a fantastic job today. He fought all race long, we know our car is what it is, but cars that beat us all year ended up behind us, so very good to go into the winter season knowing that we are ready for a better season next year. We will work hard over the winter and come back stronger. Thanks to the whole team for holding up all season and putting their best into it and today it paid off – you just have to wait for your day.”

I hope next year they will prove that they are not that lame team than they seemed this year and last year...

Mick and the thread of destiny by holding off Latifi
Really hoping for a better car next season.

Schumacher had a very, very good rookie season - A season both he and Haas can build on in 2022. Mazepin need to take a big step forward.

Props to Mick for this season. Granted he finished right down at the bottom but he took the fight to Williams whenever he could. I hope 1.5 years of car development for 22 and Ferrari engineers coming on board will vault them to where they were in 2018.

Without him pressuring Latifi Hamilton would have beaten Michael's WC record

Hope Haas can make a good step forward next year with all that money they saved and deliver a car that can score points regularly.

If Mazepin had tested positive on Covid one day earlier then Pietro Fittipaldi would have done his 3rd F1 race, sadly we only saw 19 cars now

I like the tires. They even make that tractor of a car look better somehow IMHO.

Cars look much more proportionate with these, shame we didn't get them sooner.

But then Pietro couldn't have done the young driver test, with three GP starts to his name! Quick, bring in Deledda - a driver who would really suit Haas!

They do. It looks like a proper racing car and the wheels/tyres look right straight away, unlike the F2 cars where they look a bit ungainly

Now here's a story title that I never thought I'd read:

They're going to be basically a Ferrari B Team, sharing structures with Ferrari as well.
Ferrari should also make a big step forward next season (well, one can hope), so Haas could make a significant gain too.
Hopefully we'll see Mick & Nikita fighting for some points during the season.

So, SKY Germany made a ranking of drivers based on 'cost of crashes' in 2021. Guess who's topping in: https://sport.sky.de.../12497238/33896

Mazepin needs to pick up his game in 2022. He cannot afford to be out-crashed by Mick like this.

Thanks for this . Not sure if these costs include engines but Haas F1 led the way in breaking parts. I wonder if they can still assemble a 2021 show car with what they have left?
I guess it doesn't matter as I don't think there's much to carry over from 21 to 22 anyway even if you wanted (which considering the performance of the 21 those parts they're probably best used for show cars ).
Roll on 2022!!!

So what has been the process for the 2022 Haas car? I guess they can't re-use much from the current POS thankfully. Has Haas penned a new design and given it to Dallara to manufacture? Is there any Ferrari input this time? Can the Haas 'off the shelf' approach work this time?

The Haas F1 website has a series of videos describing their 2022 design process and some of the principal players including some of the "former" Ferrari guys. Frankly I haven't watched all of them (seen a few via Twitter) but maybe I will get a chance to do so over the holidays.
I am sure the words will sound encouraging but we won't know anything until they hit the track ( and hopefully not the barriers).

They got Ferrari engineers from the downsizing to meet the budget cap. They’re getting factory support to integrate the parts they lease/buy. It’s highly likely (and the plan) that the new hires had a hand in designing and integrating those parts at the other place. It looks like they’ve built a full Ferrari B program as a place to park/prove the young drivers. Looks like ol’ Gene has seen the light and realizes he either needs a full B team or to start making some of his own stuff.

By the rules they don’t have to physically manufacture anything. They design and own the IP for the listed parts but have no in house manufacturing. One weak link is the integration of the listed parts to the provided parts (building and maintaining tire temp, brakes). That’s where the new guys come in.

Making = being in charge of requirements and manufacture either direct or ordered from sub suppliers.

I'm optimistic about next season in regards to Haas. Think they should be making a decent step forward similar (at least) to what Williams achieved in 2021. So points should definitely be on the table at some venues.
