Sad news coming from the spanish racing sphere. Alejandro Agag has been the first one to announce the passing away of Adrian Campos, former F1 racer, and founder of F2 and F3 Campos Racing team, as well as the failed HRT F1 team. The official twitter account of the team has since confirmed the news.

Adrian has been instrumental in pushing forward the racing culture in Spain, as well as mentoring and inspiring many young drivers, no matter where from, through his F2 and F3 programmes.

Rest in peace. You will be missed.

"Campos ran 17 Formula 1 races with the Minardi team between the 1987 and 1988 seasons, without scoring any points. Beyond that, he has been one of the most important figures in the history of Spanish motorsport, being the discoverer of great talents such as Fernando Alonso, Marc Gené and Antonio García.

In recent times, Adrián Campos had considered trying again in Formula 1 with Campos Racing, but the COVID-19 pandemic stopped the project. To the regret of Spanish motorsport, Adrián Campos has passed away today at the age of 60. From Motorpasión we unite with the regret of his family and loved ones. Rest in peace."

Dying in your thirties or forties? “Tragic.” Fifties? “Such a shame.” Sixties? “Too soon.” Seventies? “A good run.” Eighties? “A life well lived.” Nineties? “Hell of a ride.”

Mike “Wags” Wagner, in Billions.

Too soon, thus.

However old he was, I am sure he would have made good use of it if he had been given more time in this plane of existence.

RIP ... the world is poorer for his passing.

Unexpected, strange, not old enough, only 60.

Probably coronavirus?

He had a miserable F1 career, but he was a very passionate motorsport man, also he was one of the key people to discover Alonso and make him get to F1.

RIP

It seems it was a sudden heart-related failure.

I'm reading unexpected heart attack.

Adrian's F1 driving career never really amounted to much but what he did after that for Spanish motorsport in particular but also for the sport in general was hugely important.

There have been quite a few drivers with seemingly unremarkable careers who went on to be huge assets/players when they stopped racing, Sir Frank Williams being one of them. Campos wasn't all that highly rated when he was in F1, but comparatively did much better than his hugely rated (at the time) countryman and team mate, Luis Pérez-Sala.

RIP to his family and friends and Muchos Gracias for his service to the sport.

That's not old at all. Terribly sad. As people have said above, he gave a lot to the sport and must have changed the trajectory of Spanish auto racing.

He may not have been that talented as an F1 driver, his contribution to Spanish motorsport was immense though...

And boy did those Minardi's from the '80s look great, miss that team a lot too.

Adrian's best year as a single seater driver was 1985 when he finished 3rd overall in the German F3 championship:

After his F1 carreer ('87-'88) he won the Spanish Touring Car championship, in an Alfa Romeo 155, in 1994
