Oh man.  :|  Thankfully (or hopefully) it's nothing serious like the accidents of Hayden or Zanardi.

But what a blow. I was so looking forward to see him return to F1.

Hope he recovers quickly.

Will be harsh on Renault if he can’t start the season.... they already had this with Kubica.

Albon to sub?

Hulkenberg on standby presumably. Unless Romain fancies going back to Bahrain.

I'm starting to wonder if there's an Alonso curse going on. That's not good news but at least broken bones heal.

Who is Renaults best juniorprospect? Just put him on and now give a chance to go for it. Cheaper aswell.

All the best for Alonso, seemingly no life threatening injuries?

Was worried when I saw this news. God bless him, get well soon. Doesn't sound like he can make the season opener with multiple fractures

That is very sad for him and his family, and of course the Renault if it impacts his racing. :(

Bad news, but good in that it doesn't seem to be too bad. My 17 yo is crushed.

First thing that came in my mind was Hayden, R.I.P Nicky.

Well, when you get on a bicycle you know that you are the most fragile vehicle out there... if anyone get it wrong you can say goodbye to this world, simple as that.

He just doesn't get any breaks does he. At least it sounds like it's not life threatening or anything that terrible. Hopefully he's fine.

If a replacement is needed, i guess there's like a 90% chance of Hulkenberg. It's an obvious call. They've got Lundgaard and Piastri as promising youngsters but they're probably just slightly short of being ready quite yet.

Time to give Zhou a drive?

I am don't believe in supernatural things, but when I read the news this thought crossed my mind.

Such a shame - I seriously doubt that we will see him race in F1 ever again :(

We'll have to wait for more news to come out about Alonso's injuries. Hopefully it's more a Mark Webber situation than anything else.

I think so as well. Out of their juniors I think only Piastri qualifies for a superlicense and jumping straight from F3 to F1 doesn't seem like the best idea - although it all depends on how many races would that be, if it's just one or two then why not but for a longer period Hulk would be better.

Bar 5 days difference, it is 10 years ago Kubica had his crash, while racing the same team. Weird coincidence.

I hope he is well.

Hearing from sources close to Alonso that he has a broken jaw and will be taken to Bern, where there is a specialist unit for such injuries

According to this he has no fractures, but broken teeth and an impact on the face. Further tests at the hospital are being done:

If it is broken bones that would be maybe like 3-5 months. Hopefully not the case, but it’s not the end of the world for his comeback if that is the case. He might miss maybe half the season.

If that's all, I think it won't affect his season. Jaw fractures tend to heal in 3 to 5 weeks.

That's a bit of a relief.  Broken legs would be impossible to operate the brake pedal in a months time.

It's a shame if he's out for the start of the year but if I'm honest, after Zanardi and Schumacher I'm actually a bit relieved from when I first saw the thread title.
