Say it ain't so. Was really looking forward to his return
Posted 11 February 2021 - 19:52
Oh man. Thankfully (or hopefully) it's nothing serious like the accidents of Hayden or Zanardi.
But what a blow. I was so looking forward to see him return to F1.
Hope he recovers quickly.

I'm starting to wonder if there's an Alonso curse going on. That's not good news but at least broken bones heal.
Posted 11 February 2021 - 19:55
Who is Renaults best juniorprospect? Just put him on and now give a chance to go for it. Cheaper aswell.
All the best for Alonso, seemingly no life threatening injuries?

Was worried when I saw this news. God bless him, get well soon. Doesn't sound like he can make the season opener with multiple fractures
Posted 11 February 2021 - 20:03
May as well get on the phone to Hulkenberg.....
Posted 11 February 2021 - 20:03
Why can't we have nice things
Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Edited title to be less ambiguous.
Posted 11 February 2021 - 20:08
That is very sad for him and his family, and of course the Renault if it impacts his racing.
Posted 11 February 2021 - 20:09
Yep, just read this also. Possible he will miss the start of the season...
Almost certainly, I'd say.
Posted 11 February 2021 - 20:10
Terrible news. Hopefully he is fit to start the season.
Posted 11 February 2021 - 20:11
Bad news, but good in that it doesn't seem to be too bad. My 17 yo is crushed.

Multiple broken bones according to ‘de telegraaf’.
Posted 11 February 2021 - 20:13
First thing that came in my mind was Hayden, R.I.P Nicky.
Well, when you get on a bicycle you know that you are the most fragile vehicle out there... if anyone get it wrong you can say goodbye to this world, simple as that.

Might be. So glad to hear that he is conscious though.
Time to give Zhou a drive?

If a replacement is needed, i guess there's like a 90% chance of Hulkenberg. It's an obvious call. They've got Lundgaard and Piastri as promising youngsters but they're probably just slightly short of being ready quite yet.
I think so as well. Out of their juniors I think only Piastri qualifies for a superlicense and jumping straight from F3 to F1 doesn't seem like the best idea - although it all depends on how many races would that be, if it's just one or two then why not but for a longer period Hulk would be better.

Bar 5 days difference, it is 10 years ago Kubica had his crash, while racing the same team. Weird coincidence.
I hope he is well.

I’m gutted for him, especially this close the the season.

According to this he has no fractures, but broken teeth and an impact on the face. Further tests at the hospital are being done:

Hearing from sources close to Alonso that he has a broken jaw and will be taken to Bern, where there is a specialist unit for such injuries
If that's all, I think it won't affect his season. Jaw fractures tend to heal in 3 to 5 weeks.
Posted 11 February 2021 - 20:40
Glad he had as much luck as in his testing accident and has almost no injuries

That's a bit of a relief. Broken legs would be impossible to operate the brake pedal in a months time.

It's a shame if he's out for the start of the year but if I'm honest, after Zanardi and Schumacher I'm actually a bit relieved from when I first saw the thread title.

Probably not the best phrasing there.
