Micro transactions were already creeping in with Codies... but will be now have to pay to unlock certain drivers? Can imagine the higher profile guys tapping into what happens with football and their wealthier stars when it comes to the games.

To be honest, EA made some good moves lately. First, they released a story-based, single player only Star Wars game without all these DLC-microtransactions BS and made it available on all gaming store platforms for once, which sold so well that they decided to return to Steam as well, so I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I just hope that the series gets VR support at some point, it would be awesome.

Is the only appropriate response.

So Codemasters (now under EA) is also gonna get the wrc license if I remember correctly?
Lets see what will happen. They have a huge expertise now around whole sports genre.

Potentially, we could have a great combination of EA's sports expertise and Codemasters' driving game expertise. But I'll happily wait and see.
When it comes to F1 games, I'd like to see a bit of competition. After all, what made Geoff Crammond's games extra special was the way they were miles better than what Ubisoft, Eidos, etc came up with. Or if consoles were your thing, it was great having EA and Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool competing against each other. We got a better product because of it.

Exclusive licenses are awful for the consumers.

The one glimmer of hope i could see is that mabye ea decide to create a console iracing type game with multiple license tracks ect under the one game.
Codemasters did recently acquire slightly mad studios who were responsible for project cars 1 and 2 , which despite being buggy were great to play.

From the F1 game thread. Seems more appropriate to discuss here.
Some information regarding how EA and Codemasters will work:

Sounds like EA are just going to boost Codemasters' resources, and not take over in terms of developing the F1 game or other titles. This is great news, if you ask me, and it's pretty much what I wanted from EA. They said in the interview "For the foreseeable future", so there's a little bit of uncertainty.
Maybe things are looking up for the future of F1 games?
I still can't help seeing a lot of EA stuff creeping though. But then, that sort of modern gaming stuff was already creeping into the Codies games anyway.

I did debate whether to put that in here or not, but anyways I agree with you. There's no way EA are just going to let Codemasters go about their business without some features. From the F1 game thread. Seems more appropriate to discuss here.

I would probably bet on an F1 ultimate team and a lot more online modes that are seen in FIFA and Madden. I reckon there would also be some Podium Pass changes too.
