I don't want to watch a clock but a performance. You should be able to enjoy it with no data.

MotoGP was pretty dull when the fastest way around the track was to keep the wheels in line and the momentum up and the finishing order was largely dictated by who led into turn one at the start.

Ive been watching F1 a pretty long time. A standing start in a Grand Prix used to be one of the most exciting moments in sports. Now it's a mostly formation take-off with imperceptible wheelspin. We rarely see someone lighting up their tires when launching the car. Whether intentional or otherwise modern F1 looks like a button pressing exercise, might as well watch eSports.

Though something like LMP is even worse. You can't see the drivers, or their hands, or the front wheels doing anything.

Valterri Bottas and Max Verstappen beg to differ   . But point taken.

This comment made me think.

I bet you find two kinds of people in the world (in this context). Those who watch a pole lap in F1 and think very little happens, and those who watch a pole lap in F1 and are filled with tension and suspense.  And perhaps that is the difference between F1 fans, and not F1 fans.

I found the single lap qualifying to be gripping. Suspenseful. Lot's of tension waiting to see if the sector is purple, green, or yellow.  The newer knockout format is just as entertaining but in a slightly different way.

But I also know people who watch a lap of an F1 car and they are like "the car went around a corner by itself, what's exciting about that?"....

I feel that way about Monaco .... it's not just the race,  I could watch an F1 car (any car/driver combo) lap Monaco for hours. Others have written the race off as boring, due to the lack of passing. What am I seeing that others don't appreciate?

I’m one of these people that has absolutely zero interest in MotoGP. I’ve watched a couple of races years ago but it just doesn’t interest me in the slightest. I have no explanation as to why, it just doesn’t. I do like F1, WEC and occasionally IndyCar. I don’t watch any other motor racing series, although in the past I’ve watched DTM and BTCC (both in the mid 90s, at their peak when I was a teenager) but found the modern incarnations of both utterly tedious. I might check out the GT3 DTM this year somehow (no idea how to watch it in this country). I probably prefer stuff like Goodwood and F1 and sportscar history to actual modern racing these days. I am old before my time.

I like rugby union but have zero interest in football.

I do roll my eyes at some of the threads on here discussing inane subjects, loosely connected to F1........

Yet there's loads of things happening in other series, and quite often it's just silence.....To me, it just beggars belief.

Please open some threads about them! They might run out of steam after 40 replies but we'll probably learn a lot more than if you keep your light under a bushel.

I think we're missing a Glickenhaus thread, for example...

Nope .... a bit nostalgic perhaps, or just someone who is able to discern qualities in sports that appeal to you (and adjust your viewing accordingly) and not follow the crowd.

There are new threads for most things F1. But, there is 1 thread for bikes, all bikes of any series and anything interesting gets discussed in that thread. If you never visit that thread then you miss out on all of the bike news/races etc.

You're not wrong there.
