What's your plan for next weekend? (F1)

Just a week left until the first race of the 21 season.
What's everyone's plans to enjoy the weekend? A few beers for qualifying and the race? Full on coverage from the team principle press conference all the way to the end of the race?
How are you going to watch, and who with? (laws permitting).
I'll start:
I'll be watching all the coverage I can, press conferences and all, but not live. I'll start probably watching on my 17" computer and later my measly 43" TCL 5 series TV. All via ESPN from Michigan, USA. For the race I'll have a couple of Baileys as treat. Watching alone, but the Mrs and step son will probably be with me pretending to be interested!
I usually start the season optimistic, and later end up watching just the quali and the race, finally just the race but I'm hoping we see some good change this year too keep everything more interesting, for longer.
Just one annoying quirk I wish I didn't have to live with and that's David Croft. I detest his commentary and it's even worse in practice where he tries and fails to sound technical. They should give someone else a go for practice sessions.. no, they should give someone else a go period.
I hope the race turns out to be a classic and I'm looking forward to see the respect the sport gives to the late Murray Walker.
Bring it on!

Be disappointed for the rest of the evening.

I usually try to catch as much of Friday practice as I can on Radio 5, watch qualifying at home and then head to a sports bar on Sundays to watch the race with some friends.
The bars are still closed here in London, so my current plan is to order a pizza to arrive around the time that the race starts to make up for the fact I've got to watch it on my own!

Going to deny reality and all of my responsibilities and just dive in. GF banished to her parents house, ordering food and just gonna binge it like a true addict.
Also there's beer.

maybe a couple of friends as a company for the race.
I couldn’t think of anything worse...
Away from this board, anyone I know who speaks about F1 has such basic knowledge and are usually fanatical Hamilton fans. I’d rather sit and watch, take it all in and listen to the comms rather than have folk talking over it.
Each to their own!

For the first race, practice and qualifying will be as essential as the race. I shall tune in and spew my hot takes on the forum for your reading pleasure.

Hah, I’m the same. I need to be locked away on my own to watch F1. I don’t feel like it’s a sport to socialise over like football...I don’t take in all the strategies etc if I’m with others.
As for my plans, I was supposed to get married next Sunday but due to Covid we had to move the date. Every cloud and all that...

Bloody Bahrain night races are a right bastard of a timeslot for Australian viewers
And the usual season opening Aussie GP is a bastard of a time slot for us "normal" folk. Oh how the turn tables .

I'll watch the race, probably watch qualifying and catch practise if I can.
I'll no doubt spend the whole time disappointed that they're not using the outer circuit.

I will get my own in time for the start of the Indycar season.

They're perfect for European viewers though, a late afternoon/evening timeslot couldn't fit better. I just wish they did the outer layout that proved so exciting last year and now they abandoned it? Doesn't make sense.

I downgraded to basic cable recently which means no F1 or Indycar on TV for me. Fear not, the plan is to stream the content I like to watch instead. So, I've purchased both F1TV and Indycar Gold Pass. Looking forward to having "F1 on demand " and the F2 & F3 series to watch. I am eager to watch the practice sessions, qually, and the race!

I am taking the day off on Friday so I can watch everything in the lead up to the grand prix. I didn't watch most of 2020, live or otherwise, so trying to make up for that at the first few races. Once Mercedes start winning, I'm out again.

Just me & my dog! I’ll be glued to the tv for every session, following live timing & keeping my son up to date on Twitter! My dog will sleep through all of it.

If you can show me somewhere in Europe that would have had a 2am start time for the Australian GP, I'll consider that even.
Plus I dare say the tables are usually turned in your favour more than ours - if a GP starts about 10pm, 11pm, 10.10pm or 11.10pm or whatever the bloody 'normal' gp start time is that is usually a win for us lol

Watching alone because Covid 'n' all.
BBC Radio 5 live commentary for free practice. I will make a token effort to sync the radio with the TV but Sky have made this more difficult by not showing the light turn green to signify the beginning of the session.
Qualifying and the race will unfortunately have to be with the Sky commentary team as the desynching issues are even more annoying than Croft, but I will have beer and nibbles to help.

More importantly the Figure Skating World Championships are on so I’ll watch the Ladies Short and Free live then the F2 races.
Also Bristol on dirt late Sunday night will be a live watch.
Wish F1 was running the outer circuit. That was cool last season.

I’ll find “alternative means” online and watch on tv from laptop HDMI plugged in.
A perfect method if someone's more interested in counting Minecraft-like pixels on screen instead of seeing the lap times 😄

F1, Top Gear and a new Line Of Duty series... next Sunday shall be decent.
I'm going to keep track of what I get disillusioned with first, the hopes for a competitive Grand Prix season or Line Of Duty's plotting. Line of Duty has a week's head start, which I think is an appropriate handicap.

Outdated cliche.
I guarantee I'll have something solid and watchable on a 40 inch tv next weekend.

Back in the 90's I remember getting up in the very early hours of Sunday to watch the Australian GP from the UK, but it's progressively moved later and later over the years so it's no longer like that. Nowadays with a PVR I tend to just get up whenever and if it's already started just watch it "as live" whilst it's still recording.
But it must be much more difficult for you folks over there especially if it starts in the early hours of your Monday unless you can take the day off.

Not quite the same thing if we're being fair. We can watch the Australian GP then have a nap on Sunday. If you're in Oz for a later grand prix you have to basically pull an all nighter then go straight to work on the Monday!
I was working out in Perth in 2012 and had to watch Brazil on Monday eve which pretty much killed the excitement of the championship decider.....
But hey ho no huge plans for me for first race. I'll try and fit the F1 around MotoGP and dossing with the Mrs around B&M

Posted 21 March 2021 - 13:25
First items in my diary/calendar every year are the dates for F1 weekends - and then everything else fits around those dates. .... so no plans for this weekend
And I'm doing everything I can to keep it that way.

This used to be me, but now with 23 weekends it is simply impossible to do.

Yep ... I do my best to "defend the dates" ... but only quali and the races are really sacred... I often have to sacrifice the practices.
But where ever I am and whoever I am with - so long as I have access to a screen and signal, youre gonna have to wait till quali/the race is over before you have my full attention .... and you know what, people respect it.
I used to have a business partner years ago who was a horse racing nut - we used to call it his religion and you just worked around it.
Best of all - when people know you are into your racing - they know what to get you as a present .... the only downside is when folks who dont know me so well assume that I am Ferrari fan (or maybe that's the only team they know) and get me stuff in red .... Ferrari is my, um, ... er,.. least favourite team. ... but its the thought that counts.

took friday off for other reasons, but covid just screwed those plans, so possibly will watch free practices while cleaning home and ironing clothes, saturday and sunday will be usual race days - 30min before sessions start will tune in
