Challenge accepted.

Only one person has ever drunk me under the table....she and I sort of started dating that night! Her ability to sink 13 pints of Theakston's Old Peculiar really impressed 19 year old me.

I still think Sebastian Vettel would be the most enriching experience, with his knowledge of the sport's history. I know a couple of people who have had lunch with JYS and say it's a lovely experience and that he's a lovely man. But I can think of more *interesting* or fun former drivers. Keke for sure. Richard Petty must have a story or two. Kimi? There's a thought.....gods, the mischief we could potentially get up to.....

Hearing some of Karun Chandhok's stories about curry houses with dishes named after him and Sergio Perez.....I reckon going for a curry and beer with Karun would be good.

Vettel is a fantastic choice, bravo.

Does anyone remember a conference where Lewis Hamilton wanted to say smth about Jimmy Clark, and he named him James or something.?

You could see his face and immediately realise he does not know anything about him.

The entire line of todays drivers, apart from Vettel, dont know anything about the history of the sport.

I know they , instead of reading about the sport, spent most of the time practising hard trying to succeed .

However, if you like, sorry LOVE the sport, shouldnt you be excited about the history of it as well.

Sebastian puts a smile on my face anytime he mentions guys like Scheckter, or Peterson , Piquet or Brabham.

They are not mainstream drivers , so you know he took the time, and probably knows a lot more than just champions.

We would talk as much as there is beer in the entire pub :)

I hope you can handle fair amounts of beer. Because Keke does. And I speak from experience.

So you have a story or two?

Keke was a notorious for being able to drink and eat a lot ,, but he did rub people the wrong way sometimes.

Enzo Zermiani always commented on his grumpyness and I remember a commentator here in Croatia disliked him since Keke has been a guest in 1988 in Grobnik , RIjeka.

Nevermind ; I like the grumpy guys , hence the avatar also  :)

Of course Kimi & Alesi together.  :drunk: I just know Berger would end up there as well somehow.

The list of who I would like to have a beer with, is longer than the likes who I do not want to. And on that shorter list, there is definitely Verstappen on it.

Dario Franchitti, with Tony Kanaan if possible. Or Allan McNish.

Could go and have a beer with Daniel Ricciardo. Would be interesting to hear what he honestly thinks about his career choices.

Kimi would be a laugh for a couple of hours until you have to look after him for the rest of the night, before trying to hunt down a taxi for him that’ll agree to take him home in his vomit-drenched shirt…  :D

I’d probably choose someone a bit more down to earth rather than the true ‘party animal drinkers’. For example Eddie Irvine is one of my favourite drivers but I can imagine him being a bit of an a-hole after a couple of drinks (he’s not much better sober let’s be honest  ).

Herbert is a good shout. Glass of wine with Fisi would be cool for me. I think a few beers with Rubens Barrichello would be great…some interesting stories from his Ferrari days, for sure.

On this subject, I feel that Casey Stoner would be inebriated after one drink and then I could learn how much he hated every character in MotoGP from 2006-2012.

Why should they, you are conflating your feelings with theirs. I recall an interview with a tournament winning PGA golfer who, responding to the question, said he never watched golf and didn't even like it, he just happened to be particularly good at it. I am pretty sure that this feeling applies to a very high percentage of employees, they are very good at their jobs but given a choice, would rather be doing something else - How many of us spend our lives doing something we love and get paid for doing so? It is not necessary for drivers A & B to know anything about the past to appreciate the present (which, by the way, lasts approximately 40 milliseconds).

How about Gerhard Berger? He seems to me very funny.
Then Alex Wurz as he might know a lot of places where dead bodies…?

Jarno Trulli has his own vineyard. Just sayin'.

(edit : is it vineyard or vinyard? It looks wrong. Is it spelled 'vineyard' and pronounced 'vinyard' ?)

JYS is, IIRC, near teetotal as his elder brother was alcoholic.

I think Robert Earnshaw who scored lots of goals for Cardiff said much the same. But then you have to question why they those that career

Same as me a Petroleum Geologist travel the world very good at my job. But could not care less for Geology, people find it weird. It is a job and i am very good but i am either at work and switched on or at home and could not careless. Always raises eyebrows when people go on about University majors etc. I was in a field somewhere whatever. Always makes small talk in interviews fun.

So yes it is possible to not care for the sport you play professionally. I would say having that switch off tome is beneficial.

Yes, and Trulli is a vintner.

Not exactly 'having a beer' but when I was a kid, I got up one morning to find Giacomo Agostini and Phil Read playing with my train set.

This might be the single greatest racing anecdote ever posted on this site, and that's saying something.

I think for me, among the drivers/riders I'd most want to have a drink with, it'd be Noriyuki Haga, Dario Franchitti, and Alan McNish.  I think the stories would be pretty epic.

Do ask him about the bump on the fastest line at Westfield Bend (Brands Hatch). Does  he have no fear at all, or does he just like trying to give spectators nervous breakdowns.

I literally would.  And about how the hell he was able to break physics throwing that YZF750 around.  That man rode a bike in ways that literally seemed against the laws of nature sometimes.

Not all Scots.

I don't think JYS was ever one for the bottle....More so after his older brother (who did a lot to get Jackie's racing career started after his own ended) started openly talking about how alcohol addiction had damaged his life. Brought the two brothers closer together than they'd been since they were young men but the booze certainly shortened Jimmy's life.

That said, I've been told by a good friend who has had dinner and done a photo shoot with Jackie that he's a wonderful gentleman and great conversation. Maybe we'd just have a glass of wine each over a lovely meal....assuming Jackie even drinks wine these days. If not, he's welcome to the finest mineral water money can buy.

AJ Foyt. I doubt we have a heck of a lot in common but he must have stories to tell.

But honestly I'm still thinking Seb. I've not always warmed to him but I find myself doing so more.

Likely a waste of an invite.

Grumpy old man voice... "I ain't gonna talk about that"

By the end of the night he'd be verbally attacking you with... "You know the dang gum problem with your generation is...."

Either way - search him for a laptop when he gets there cause he's gonna toss that at you by nights end.

I figured either that or they owned a charming B&B near a track, but still, that is one of the more outrageously perfect anecdotes, and thank you for sharing.

It would fly, yes, without Hamilton's confused face ...that is .

In world of racing , Clark is, as far I am aware, known as Jim,.
Hamilton just looked unsure , because , as pointed out, he knows nothing about Jim Clark, or other racers

JYS, I think is a fine man to have a good talk with.

I never know much about Fernando, except that Nigel Roebuck said that he plays Poker.

Curious.

Judging by his career moves, badly.
