Can anyone please help with information about this event, which I understand was billed as the 5th of its its type (and in a couple of places is referred to as the Champions Rally)? I understand it was organised on the Moet et Chandon estate.

All I have ever seen is a couple of photos including members of the Chandon family and sporting celebrities including Michel Platini, Guy Drut, Jacky Ickx and the photographer Gunter Sachs. It's reported that Guy Drut won, but not what the event was. In the photos I've seen, most are wearing rally jackets and Goodyear caps, which suggests there was some sort of competition, although whether this was motorised or some kind of "Superstars" event is not clear.

Any help, clarification, contemporary articles or advice would be gratefully received!

Jon, the local area newspaper, based in Reims, is/was L'Union. I'm sure they will have covered it, and they probably have an archive.

Presumably, these are the shots you have seen?  I can find nothing about a car rally, nor any record of Guy Drut competing in motor sport. He was an Olympic level hurdler, who later entered politics.

So I suspect it was some sort of corporate jolly.  There seems to be a lot of Adidas clothing, as well as the odd Goodyear hat, whilst rally jackets were pretty common wear at that time.

Really helpful thanks guys; as suspected, it appears to have been some kind of “Superstars” -type event, with the emphasis on entertainment rather than competition. The motor sports angle looks like a red herring. Much appreciated, as ever!
