I spent a good few years of my life watching Danica and Sam Hornish tool around in 25th place in NASCAR, so I hope at least a few NASCAR fans will return the favor and continue to watch Indycar, even if JJ isn't terribly competitive.

was Danica really that good in Nascar?

That's about where she would usually run before the customary wreck, yeah.  :stoned:

The Week in IndyCar, Barber edition, from Pruett.

Upside:  Actual racing to discuss!

Downside:  It takes slightly over two and a quarter hours to do it.

Ah, a chav.

Not quite. But that’s as close as you’d get in Engerland.

My hoodie accessories include:
An analog 1974 Pierre Cardin watch (dual timezones)
A lanyard with whatever pass/ticket/credential.
Earplug container.
Race venue or team cap
Walkie Talkie

Ah, a chav.

I just need to point out the irony of my original statement as a near-40yr old for whom a hoody and jeans is still my go-to leisure clothing combo. I have switched it up slightly to a cardigan sometimes, but it doesn't offer the range of comfort of my beloved hoody.

Palou Snr does look (he was wearing a cap and mask...so can't really tell) quite young for a father of a 24yr old, but has obviously done VERY well to be able to fund/partially fund his sons career to this point. Hence my surprise why he dressed 'like me'.

After all the discussion last year, have they figured out a cockpit cooling solution? Cockpit temps were a non-story this weekend.

They have quite a range of devices now. (see below) I don't know if any are mandatory (other than item 1), but it would make sense at the hotter races as some solutions generate a bit of drag. I remember at one race last year Will Power was lamenting using the upper-scoop (4) as he felt it cost him a bit aerodynamically to his rivals who made do without. In that scenario, if there was a risk of drivers overheating, i'd hope the series would step in and tell everyone to use them instead of them making that sort of risk assessment themselves.

1. NAPA, sorry 'Naca' duct

2. Nose ducts. In my day, these were known in F1 as 'donkey dicks' due to the long hose/duct feeding into the cockpit.

3. Helmet duct. These just ram airflow into the drivers helmet. Most drivers seem to use them.

4. Upper Scoop - This just re-directs a bit of passing airflow down into the cockpit. First seen in Iowa last year but occasionally popped up at other races.

Thanks.  I was aware of these items, but the fact that they had to keep adding things meant they were still chasing the issue.  April in Alabama isn't the warmest weather, yet, but the improved straight-to-the-driver's helmet cooling hose appears to be the biggest improvement.  All I know was it didn't come up this weekend, AFAIK.  Which is good!

Ericsson says there was a fuel calculation error and he had to save a lot of fuel in the end. Thats why he stopped at the track as well.

I hope they weren't using this to jot down their fuel calculations:

He stopped first for a 30 lap stint, what was he expecting?

I bet he was expecting a championship caliber team like Ganassi to be able to do fuel calculations. If the team tells him his to save fuel or go into attack mode, he should be able to trust them, and not have to start questioning them along the lines of who pitted when and are they saving or not.

At least they caught it at one point. Someone from Ganassi probably asked Ericsson's engineers why they pitted so early for the last stop and how did they expect to make it til the end. That's probably when it dawned on them, that they've miscalculated. They were probably missing a lap?

Yeah, I watched his videos first when he set up his sim rig. Felix came over to help and tracked down a correct steering wheel for him in the middle of the night (he bought an incompatible one for his base).

Iirc, the car won't hold enough fuel for 30 laps without some serious saving and most long stints were 27ish laps. I don't know if he pitted on fumes when he did in lap 60, perhaps using too much in the early phases? Or switching strats due to the long SC at the start.

Dunno, but you've got to be able to rely on the wheel man tighten the wheel right, the driver to drive the car and the fuel strategy guy to work out the numbers.
