McLoughlin's been kinda anonymous so far...
Tough crowd - It was his third single seater start, other than perhaps one or two formula ford races over ten years ago. I think he's doing great, considering he has only driven a 1500 KG saloon for the last decade and has so much to adjust to. He run ahead of Power for most of yesterdays race, kept it clean and finished ahead of many experienced runners and beat last weeks winner, as well as a certain fellow rookie and ex-F1 driver.

I really enjoyed the race yesterday. May have been a bit static at the front, but there was plenty of action elsewhere and it's such a great track. The on-boards are so good, giving a real sensation of the difficulty in man-handling the cars round there. Would love to go there one year.

I have to admit, as time goes by... I'm beginning to see Rossi more and more as Will Power, Mk. 2. Obviously very fast but his main weakness is that he loses his head under pressure.
(Please don't hurt me Anja.)
Mostly it seems to me that he let too much frustration to build up over time, and now tries to force the turnaround in his fortunes instead of waiting and letting it happen more naturally. Which is an easy way to get into a vicious cycle.

I think people are making too much of the collision with Rahal.
Rossi did put the squeeze on Rahal as he was on the dive which ultimately caused the contact, Rahal HAD to got for it with the hot tyre advantage. But at the same time, Rossi HAD to defend so he wouldn't be stuck behind Rahal for the rest of the stint.
But the suggestions that Rossi petulantly drove Rahal off the road as some kind of payback is just guff. Rossi turned left but his car was a reliant robin by that point.

Yeah, I don't think he drove Rahal off the road. But I don't think he had to defend, when the corner was lost. It cost him any hope of points. So he has crashed out of two of his last three races, and his crew got the strategy wrong at Barber. The 27 crew are just not as good as they think they are.

I think Rahal was too far behind for that move. I believe Rossi thought so as well and that he did not actually defend, he just turned in.

I really thought he was going to get a Top 10 finish yesterday, which would have been a great result. He has pace but it looks like he tends to lose time/places on restarts/start of stints etc when the tyres are not up to temp and he has admitted that he is not as confident yet as others on cold tyres. But that should come with more time and experience. I think he will definitely get stronger as the season goes on and will be in a great place next year with a whole season under his belt.
Yeah it was correct to be on the blacks for the last stint however he was unlucky with 2 restarts. So having to restart on the blacks with so little experience worked against him. But he's keeping his nose clean, picking up points, hasn't been the last qualifying Penske at either race yet... he's doing a great job for so little open wheel experience. I think if he can finish the first 6 races around P10-P16 that would do him a world of good to build on...

Nothin’ more Indycar than the Coke Lot. That’s some deep track trivia there.

I would maybe extend that last bit to the whole of AA–after Herta, the next-highest Andretti car was 15th. If Herta is going to fight for a championship he’s going to need his teammates closer than that.Yeah, I don't think he drove Rahal off the road. The big question is what happened? Did all of the engineering talent go walkabout, or were Andretti good in a uniquely low point for Ganassi and Penske? I don't think the latter is the case, but cannot understand how they suddenly lost the fire overnight.

Perhaps Ganassi and Penske have gotten more better than Andretti.

Perhaps. I mean, we know they really struggled last year with the aeroshield's arrival. Seems like this may have continued, but if so, why Colton's squad figured it out but the rest of the team cannot is a bit less easy to explain.

Rossi took 4 podiums in the last 5 races of 2020 and would have podiumed/won at the last race as well. He was right up there with Newgarden in the second half.

Twin races at an oval this week. I'll worry if Andretti is nowhere there, sans Herta, of course. Two races can be an anomaly, but a quarter of the season is more like a trend.

Good progress for Scotty Mac and even Jiimmy - he was closer to the field in quali.
Dalton doesn't count.

In some manner, fungibility and all that, he pays for Bourdais. So that's something . . .

I don't remember Kellet being terrible in Lights. But he just looks out of his depth in the big show.
[Looking at his creds- 8 years in the Road to Indy, 0 wins, 1x 2nd, 6x 3rds. Not incompetent, but I could give you handful of names that ought to be in an IndyCar ahead of him.]

In his 4 years in Lights, he managed to place 10th out of 11 full-timers in his rookie season, 12th out of 14 next year, 7th out of 7 next and 7th out of 8 in his final year. A definition of a backmarker.
He did take a bunch of 3rd places in the process but pretty much everyone in Lights manages a podium or two over the course of a season so it means nothing really.

Colton Herta quote regarding this F1 drive snippet " Oh they are COOL but I'd rather be racing Indycars"
Also, a collection of On-Boards for the race start

And here's the latest episode of Marcus Ericsson's behind the scenes. Nice cameos with chauffer Dario and 13X hanging on in the back seat of a golf cart.
I swear I'm becoming JP in my old age because I click for Marcus, but stay for Alexandra.

Those have been a staple of club racers for years. Those are pretty heavy (15-20 lbs) due to the cooler chest and pump. I bet the Indycar version is much swankier.

I'm sure you thought there was a good joke in there somewhere, but I can't see it.
