Yeah, you're right. If anyone wants to talk about Turkey being back I think that should be a separate thread.

I read about the swap yesterday, then today I read that Turkey are about to go into their first full lockdown, so is this going to happen?

Never thought that much of the track really. I always thought it was just another track when they first introduced it into F1, except that they put in a single gimmicky really long corner, to try and create some sort of "classic".
Posted 29 April 2021 - 11:05
I suppose any race track you design from a blank sheet of paper is a gimmick, in that sense.
I'm all for constructing circuits from existing road layouts, but for the most part that ship has sailed.

The track isn't only all about Turn 8, it flows quite nicely all the way through, apart from that bizarrely tight chicane at the end of the lap.
Shame about where it is due to politics and perhaps some disinterest from locals (albeit I'm sure there's some proper F1 fans in such a big city like Istanbul! just not many). Track is great otherwise. Losing Montreal for only a year, but gaining Istanbul momentarily, feels like a win-win to me - I enjoy both tracks.

It just seemed a bit over the top to me, and a desperate attempt from Herman Tilke to be "interesting" to rid himself of his reputation.

Malaysia's sepang would've been better but Istambul trak is still good

Hopefully the national lockdown that Turkey is about to go into to try and reduce the high numbers of covid cases does the trick. It's currently got the highest infection rate in Europe.

Well, don't be surprised if Malaysia makes a appearance later in the year if a bunch of overseas races dont happenMalaysia's sepang would've been better but Istambul trak is still good

Hopefully the national lockdown that Turkey is about to go into to try and reduce the high numbers of covid cases does the trick. It's currently got the highest infection rate in Europe.
Travellers returning to the UK who have been in countries on the list in the previous 10 days are obliged to pay for a compulsory 10-day quarantine in government-approved hotels.
Turkey will officially join the red list on 12 May, a month before the scheduled race date of 13 June.
It’s understood that the usual UK government exemptions which allow F1 team personnel and others directly involved in the sport to avoid quarantine cannot be applied to countries on the red list.
That would impact the seven British-based teams as well as many F1 and FIA personnel who return to the UK between races.

If there's no exemptions in place, that could be very difficult.
France is two weeks after Istanbul. Presuming it's possible to go straight from Baku to Paul Ricard, what are the French requirements?

I don't think F1 will consider that it matters too much if Cousin Andy doesn't make the race.F1 will have to make a very quick call on this

UEFA Champions league most likely will be moved from Istanbul.

Thats interesting - but the Govt have already said - if necessary, they will look at giving the footballers an exemption - which if they do, they will presumably also have to do for the F1.

There is still talk about the football Champion's League game in Turkey being hosted in the UK instead. So why not offer to host the Turkish GP at Donnington Park?

On the assumption the race weekend is going ahead as planned, let's have it !

I always assumed part of the reason we have such a massive race calendar this year is that it was assumed some races would have to be cancelled due to pandemic.

In my experience, if Noemi says it's happening, it's happening. Very personable young lady, too. She interviewed my boy in downtown Austin at the downsized FanFest before it finally died off, and she couldn't have been nicer.

Why didn't they choose Nürburgring in the first place. They offered to host the race and the weekend was free.
