Two huge accidents leading to red flags in practice. Apparently caused by cold tyres due to tyre warmers being banned.

Looking forward for the race, first of the Hypercar era.
Doubt it's going to be any different from the last few years tho, Toyota is set to dominate once again with no real competition.

I thought tyre warmers haven't been allowed in WEC for ages, if not for ever?

I have no clue. I can't keep track of XXX constantly changing rules across motor sport.

Jota damage. Albuquerque P2... already.

... And of course the Toyotas were sandbagging during pratice. The leader is already settling into a rythm.

Their being slower than the P2s never really made much technical sense unless some Je Ne Sais Quoi was at play
Reliability, likely. Let's see if they can keep it up for the whole race.

That would make sense. I would be surprised if the Toyotas can't given their extensive recent experience building endurance prototypes, but we shall see

Track limits... van der Garde has apparently received a 'final warning'.
Bad stop for the 8 Toyota.

The Alpine is as quick as the Toyotas which is good
Posted 01 May 2021 - 12:39
Conway was ordered to let Buemi pass supposedly because the Swiss was faster but Buemi never took off
Posted 01 May 2021 - 13:06
Toyota seems to be able to do longer runs than the Alpine though
Posted 01 May 2021 - 13:09
Lapierre just did a 2:04.9 with the Alpine. Currently quicker that the Toyotas.
Posted 01 May 2021 - 13:18
Slow stop for #7. The Alpine should take the lead when the #8 stops
Posted 01 May 2021 - 13:18
Buemi IN.

Sophia seems faster than Visser was. She should overtake amateurs Andersen and Hedman now.

I am very much looking forward to see what she can do in the DTM:

Lopez going fast

Colapinto flying already

Colapinto flying already
Superstar in the making, IMHO
Posted 01 May 2021 - 14:45
Well, it was a super fast lap for Colapinto and now taking things more carefully or in traffic it seems
Posted 01 May 2021 - 14:53
The car seems to have held up well, though.
Posted 01 May 2021 - 15:00
I hadn't realized Han Benley is in this race.

... and now back to Spa, after Portimao quali.
I've had my TV on Portimao and my ears listening to Radio Le Mans
You're getting back just as it's getting interesting on strategy.
Posted 01 May 2021 - 15:19
Don't know what happened with the FCY and the pit stops but Colapinto was 30 seconds ahead of Davidson and now Davidson is right behind him (and Scherer is 10 seconds farther away as the difference went from 55 secs to 65 or so)
Posted 01 May 2021 - 15:21
5 secs penalty to #8 for unsafe release. I'm predicting something similar for #7 for the contact with the #91
Posted 01 May 2021 - 15:24
