Is it a Lola (T290/2), or something else?

Was it a hillclimb car?

All help gratefully received.

Is it a Lola T298?  If so, the Lola Heritage site states that they were very popular in French sports car series in the late seventies/early eighties. I can't quite make out the driver's name on the car - Phillippe Jeannxxx  ?

It's a Cheetah, possibly G501, but what's Thierry Boutsen got to do with it? It looks like Thierry anyway.

Just the fashionable peanut haircut of the time!

Looks like the only Cheetah G501 (distinctive airbox) made by Swiss constructor Chuck Graemiger in Lausanne.

Both Cosworth BDG (Brian Hart) and BMW M12 engines were used in that chassis.

Drivers name definitely indicates that it's Phillipe Jeanneret of Switzerland, maybe the car was used in hillclimbs then?

Phillipe Jeanneret was entered in a G601 for the '79 Le Mans by the official Cheetah team, but he did not start.

That car had a 2 litre BMW M12 engine and did not finish due to engine failure.

The sponsor Netstal (now under KraussMaffei) is a Swiss company who makes injection moulding machines.

PS. The car still exist in Switzerland and has been entered by Andy Feigenwinter in many historic race meetings.

PSS. Sorry for not pointing out that the machine in the background was (of course) one of Netsal's injection moulding machines.

I'd suggest a Lola T294 with a modified front end.  Have a look at this for similarities.

Good luck - hope you find a definitive answer.

Regards.

Ah, yes, just seen this after making my post, and it does seem to be the G501, which I'd say was largely a copy of the Lola.

And I think I‘ve been able to pinpoint the - rather prosaic - picture location. The photo was taken in the company‘s parking lot in Näfels, Switzerland. Who would‘ve thought that?

More like an Abarth than a Lola I'd say

I'd love to see a modern aerodynamic analysis of that car.

I'd agree, especially regarding the front end if you're thinking Abarth-Osella PA1, but the side intakes treatment is quite a lot different.  I really don't know much about the G501, but if Graemiger was looking to produce a car not absolutely from scratch, it's perfectly reasonable to guess that he tried to 'copy' and combine what he thought the best aspects of the Lola and the Abarth - and why not a touch of Chevron for good measure too!  Regards. David.

Curious that nobody has commented on the presence of an injection moulding machine - Must have been shot for an advert. Reminds me of the copywriters at an ad agency I used to do contract work for; they gleefully told me how they had successfullyconvinced Coventry Climax that the best magazine ads would result from shipping a couple of fork-lifts to the Bahamas along with 3 or 4 models...

I think it's time to forget all the Lola/Abarth theories and to accept the very competent posting from Myhinpaa. The correct spelling  of the driver's name is Philippe Jeanneret.

Le Nouvelliste, 24 April 1979 — report from Dijon by Jean-Marie Wyder:

The elephant in the room... or rather, few of us knew what an injection moulding machine actually looked like!

Guilty as charged.  I assumed it was a high-quality coffee machine with attached microwave.

I thought it was an early hybrid power plant.
